hi guys

I went to a local country show and was walking around a horsey type stall when I hear a little bark, there were two cute dobherman (sp?) puppies locked in the smallest crate ever on a bed of straw and a little bowl of water.  A lady came running over to me and asked if I wanted to buy one!  I said know, should you really be selling them here, especially from a horse stall.  She replied, its fine, im a registered breeder, I breed shih tzus, pugs... the list went on!  I breed these two from my gaurd dogs and there 12 weeks old now I thought I would have had them gone by now but they havent, and I need shot of them as they have ate 3 of my pug puppies!! hence their in the cage.  "Do you want them I will do you a deal!"  I politely told her I did not want them and she said well if you change your mind them come back in an hour before I pack away and I will give you a deal on them both!

Should this be allowed at a country show?  I know off this women anyway and she runds what I would call a puppy farm!

why not report her?
- By Merlot [gb] Date 28.08.07 16:49 UTC
Report her to the organizers of the show I don't believe it's allowed and they may well refuse to let her stall out at another show and that will hit her right in the pocket!!!:cool::cool:

Cant believe no one else said anything to her?

I would have been furious if she had offered tham to me in that condition, make sure to report her if you see her again as now I fear for the Pug puppies shes got at home if she has taken them back as 2 were apparantly eaten before and vice versa, the quality of life for the 2 doberman puppies

Definitely report her if you can -this is an accident waiting to happen. The RIGHT owner is not going to appear like this, and if she even says the were bred from guard dogs.....!!  As for the poor Pug pups...........speechless. :(

Is there anyway you can report her?
Do you have her number or address?

Seriously worried about the puppies now.

Hi Thompson1 I was obviously at the same country show as you. (Glendale Show near Wooler, right) I saw those Dobermann puppies too, brown weren't they, but I wasn't in conversation about them, so I didn't know anyone was trying to sell them.

I don't think the cage was too small though, they were bedded on straw, but it looked quite comfortable to me, and they did have food and water. I must admit I just thought their owner had brought them because they hadn't anyone to leave them with.

Feeling a bit of a fool now. :(

I'd report her to the show society and also get the RSPCA round there too, especially if it's true that they've killed some other pups.  She may just be some sado who thinks it's cool to say something like that when more than likely they haven't done anything of the sort but she wants to make them sound tough!!

I was at a country show on Sunday also and was shocked at the number of pups that didn't look old enough to be out and about, but people in the country do seem to do things differently!  Not getting at country people but some things in the way some breed I would never do.

Ditto with everyone else!

I'm still quite shocked by her sales pitch, of they have eaten 3 of my pug puppies.

Nope........ not tempted at all!

It is people normally who move to the country pretending to be country wise people I would have thought ;) :D :D

At least they were in a cage secure.  A few weeks back I was in North Wales with a friend and all our kids on the beach, as we came off the beach my daughter (8) ran up to some pups playing on the grass and comes running back asking if she could have one as they were for sale of course I said Ye right.  No it was true there was a couple with 2 bitches and their pups who were ready for their new homes running around on teh grass mixing with all and sundry and yes you guessed it not had any injections but the worse was still to come  SOMEONE ACTUALLY BOUGHT ONE  Noooooooo.  Are people totally stupid.

Hi yeah it was the glendale show.  I really couldnt belive it, I did report it to one of the marshalls but they didnt seem to care so sent and email to the organisors.  Im not sure if you can remember about 3/4 years ago I posted about a women in sunderland who was selling shih tzu puppies etc, I just realised that this is the same puppy farmer!  I remember going their and having a look and cates upon crates of shih tzus and puppies packed on top of one another!  I forgot to add non of the puppies are KC reg or even DLRC reg.  Therfore hate to see what the breeding is like!

What more encouragement to report them do you need then?
Inform the RSPCA

but although its morally and ethically abhorrant to all of us who care about their welfare....was a LAW being broken?
- By MariaC [gb] Date 30.08.07 14:27 UTC
I don't know about the law being broken, but I think a visit from an RSPCA inspector might make her think about what she is doing, and who knows if someone else has already complained about her, then maybe the RSPCA could take the dogs from her.  Not ideal but better than living with her from what I've read on this thread!
- By jackyjat [ru] Date 30.08.07 15:07 UTC
Sam I think you're right.  There is no doubt that it's morally wrong, but there isn't a law against breeding non-KC reg'd dogs; neither does there seem to be a law against what CD lovers would call puppy farming.  We're fooling ourselves if we think that the RSPCA would care.

Everyday, in every street there is a dog being cared for in a way which we wouldn't approve of and there is little we can do to stop it.

There are certain standards that commercial breeders ahve to adhere to ion order to be licensed.  ther reason puppy famers get away with bad conditions is lack of enforcemetn, it is up to us to mske sure to give them evidence of law breaking and make them enforce the laws.  Evidence coudl consist of checking how many litters a particular outfit advertises, as soon as it is more than five in any 12 month you know they need a license.

Well she may not have a license or be breaking the terms of the licence where certain standards of husbandry are supposed to be adhered to.  Also the Inland revenue would have an interest.
- By munrogirl76 Date 30.08.07 22:41 UTC
That was my thought too Barbara, you might get further with the Local Authority or Inland Revenue (sad but true). Poor puppies. :(
