As lots of you are aware, Thor is on Prednisolone (20 mg per day at the mo), and this morning, as usual, after they have all had their morning walks, I gave Thor his tablets -2, followed by his green-lipped mussel tabs. At this point, the rest of the pack came charging into the kitchen, and started up their new game - which is Freya grabs something - anything - off the worktop, rushes out into the garden with it, and they all chase her, and try to get it from her - great game! But this morning, she grabbed the preds bottle  -
So I start chasing out after her, calling her to give it to me - she is starting to bring it back when Vinnie grabbed it. And, being Vinnie, she has to crunch on it! She did eventually drop it - but being the usual plasctic meds bottle, it is now broken:( I've put all of them away, and retrieved 90 5mg tabs. Now some may still be lying about in the garden - she was prancing up and down a border  It was a bottle of 200 just 3 weeks ago. I've calculated that Thor will have had 4 x 7 x 3 = 84 tablets + or - 4. Which leaves 30 tabs unaccounted for.
I've done a seach for prednisolone overdose, but apart information seems to refer to overdose over a prolonged period. And of course, its a bank holiday weekend :( . I've spoken to the emergency vets telephone service, and advised to try and make Vinnie sick - and keep an eye on her.
Flippin' dogs - it used to be bank holidays at the hospital with the children - now it looks as if that could turn into bank holiday at the emergency vets instead.
If anyone has any input/experience of a prednisolone overdose like this, I'd be grateful for it!

My only experience of steroids (prednisolone) is when I've had an acute asthma attack or chest infection that won't shift. Steroids take over your immune system and when they give doses to adults they have to decrease the dose towards the end of the course rather than sudden withdrawal. It's important not to just stop taking them.
Athletes who take large doses of steroids tend to get grouchy, so you could end up with a grumpy dog for a few days!

Well, although I made her sick, there were no tablets in the resulting mess :(
She does seem to be ok, and that link from Tatty-ead (thanks for that one - hadn't found it myself!) seems to say that a one-off overdose shouldn't be a problem.
So no, I've just got to spoil their fun so that there's absolutely NOTHING that Freya can pick up and take outside ...apart from their Raggy!
