Hi Carla, I'm an Endoscopy nurse, so I can explain.
Often people present to their GP with symptoms of abdominal pain, dyspepsia. Ulcers are diagnosed by Gastroscopy, and treated by a group of drugs known as PPIs (proton pump inhibitors). These drugs control the production of stomach acids, and thus allow the ulcers to heal. Ulcers can be found not only in the stomach but also in he duodenum. The presence in the stomach, of the bacteria Helicobacter Pylori makes ulcers a likelyhood. Helicobacter Pylori can be tested for by a blood test, and by a gastric mucosal biopsy at the time of a gastroscopy. Hope this helps.
