I have a load of secondhand books (childrens mostly. Enid Blyton and suchlike) Does anyone know where I could get rid of them? Please dont suggest a car boot sale I couldnt think of anything Id rather not do on a Sunday morning! Too many really for a Charilty shop, they'd need an extra bookcase! Dont really want anything for them as long as they go to a good home.
Hello Wendy
I totally agree with you on car boot sales, never understood the attraction. Two possible ideas - our local diy stores and supermarkets now have a 'box' for unwanted books (I think they are for the Red Cross) - we never noticed until we wanted to get rid of some so worth a look. Personally though I would put them on your local Freecycle because I am sure someone would be delighted with them and it is quite fun deciding who you want to give them to. If you are not a member just type Freecycle into Google and it will give you details of what it's all about and how to join your local group.
Best wishes

Vote for freecycle here too. I'm trying not to get addicted at the moment :) My local group shifts things very, very quickly - yesterday some kitchen worktops went within half an hour of being posted to the group, and books and the like seem to go very quickly too.
Its a bit of a faff, but have you thought of selling them on ebay? Sometimes books such as Enid Blyton can be quite popular to collectors. if you have books for young children, the local nursarys may be interested, or social services may have an outlet for them. You could also put them free in your local paper, see if anyone collects them, some people will hawk these types of books round car boots (although I too cannot see the facination in them, I love auctions, but car boot sales leave me cold. ) Failing that, if you know the location of a second hand bookshop they may take them off your hands.

I too am using Freecycle - its amazing just how quickly people respond AND collect the stuff!
(Mind you, I do admit to being gobsmacked at the things people ask for .........

)

Ditto Margot.......
Some of the ask's are incredible but I agree put them upon Freecycle and you'll shift them!

Just a suggestion but you could split the books up and give some the the local childrens hospital, some to charity, some to a local pre school etc
just a thought :)

I know at our village fete there is always a book stall and they are always on the lookout for books. Might there be one near you?

Our local hospice has a book shop in the local town which is handy because our local charity shop doesn't take books.
Oxfam do have dedicated book shops too. We gave a freecycle member who collects childrens books to take to a project in Gambia too.

Our hospital has a book stall at reception where they sell the books for 25p each and the proceeds go to the breast care appeal. :)

Charity shops. Hubby and I always go into charity shops to look for books! :D
I always give mine to the local greyhound rescue fete, must admit the book stall always does a roaring trade.:)
thanks guys! never heard of freecycle but im going to have a look.

As some people have said split them up to go for different chairty's, schools possibly especially if you ave any special need schools? Either that or possibly set up a stall at your next club show, sell them there thoughout the day and money raised goes to your breed rescue?

Your local hospital would probably take them.
