Hi, I am looking for a comprehensive book about as many different breeds of dog as possible, with big clear photographs of each breed. I have surfed the web for sometime now but noone seems to have anything like this. Can you help please? Many thanks Alison

Hi,
I can recommend The New Encyclopedia Of The Dog by Dr. Bruce Fogle. There are lots of good photos, not alot of text but it seems to cover the basics. It has a Brown Labradors head on the front if that helps. I bought mine from WHSmith about six months ago and it cost £19.99.
Best Wishes, Amy

Hi guest, One suggestion is the KC book of breed standard. Every breed has at least one photo, hand drawings , and a breed standard, plus a good section on rare breeds.

Hi Tina, the full title is "The Kennel Club's Illustrated Breed Standards"; pub. Ebury Press; March 1998. ISBN: 0091853745. I had a look on
Amazonand you can get it new for £29.75, or they have used copies for £20.
Or you could wait until March next year and get the
new edition for £35.

I would second both Amy and Phillippa's suggestions, I have both these and they are lovely books, very comprehensive and with brilliant pictures. I got them from Amazon, they were £16 and £30 respectively (but plus p&p).

I can highly recommend a book called The mini atlas of dog breeds by Andrew De Prisco and James B. Johnson, it has over 500 full colour photos and has over 400 breeds illustrated and discussed, a very very good book.

Hi Guest,
I would go with the New Encyclopedia of the Dog that Amy recommends. It's a DK publishing and has worldwide breeds in it. Beautiful book.
I"m not certain about the KC club book having non-recognized dog breeds listed in it. The AKC guide only had "authorized" breeds in it. I was amazed when I came across an "international" book when I was young to see so many more breeds in existence that they did not have listed :) :)
An old book that I love to use, might be updated again. The International Encyclopedia of Dogs published by Howell. Ed. by Anne Rogers Clark and Andrew H. Brace.
good luck
toodles

The KC book only has the breeds it recognises, which in it's self is helpfull. Ja:)kie
