I'm just back from a great week in the Highlands with the woofles and it's made me think that perhaps a thread suggesting good doggy holiday destinations would be helpful?

I stayed here, quite near Loch Ness. The chalet was really roomy with a dog friendly garden. The dogs had a whale of a time with lots of fabulous walks around and a daily swim (different loch every day). Even in the height of the tourist season I found lots of beautiful, picturesque places where we were completely alone. Every time I stepped out the door of the cottage I saw some sort of wildlife. Masses of deer, hares, buzzards and a golden eagle to name a few.

The only negative point about the holiday is of course the scourge of Scotland - the midgies! They were vicious  I went through 2 bottles of skin so soft and 3 cans of midgy spray, and still managed to get eaten alive

I'm going away for a week in November - can anyone recommend another place to stay with a fully fenced garden and miles of off road walking nearby?

Is the garden fenced?  Wish I'd known about that place a few years back, I went very near to there with Remy in 2003 but we stayed in a hostel and a B&B, in Cannich and Drumnadrochit.  Do want to go back at some point but that chalet looks like a much nicer option!

Yes the garden was fully fenced :) Although I should say it's not very big. The lodge was spacious and the garden was fine for putting the dogs out in for the loo, or sitting out in eating tea (if you could cope with the midgies). It's only about 5 mins from Drumnadrochit, set up on a hill with great walks - opposite Balnain bike park...it's an amazing place - I never saw another soul there and used all the stuff for agility training...seesaws, jumps, dog walks (aka skinnys) :D

Did you visit Glen Affric? I drove right to the end and spent the day there, never had to put the dogs on a lead once and they paddled/swam and ran through the heather for hours - gorgeous place.

Friends of mine have just stayed for a fortnight here although you can only take 2 dogs FOC.   I went to see them on Wednesday and it was fantastic, all you look out onto are fields & Mabie Forest!  Dumfries & Galloway has loads of Forestry Commision Land so you're never stuck for dog walks.  I was sorry to come home after one day, I can't imagine how down they must feel today as their holiday finished.  They've fallen in love with the area.

No, at the time I was totally unprepared re. where to go - it was a bit hit-and-miss :D I did manage the cairngorms briefly and Aviemore, but Glen Affric is definitely on my list for next time.  Balnain park sounds great - and it sounds like I just missed it, I drove all round Loch Ness and Drumnadrochit, drove to both ends of the loch and then some, and out from either side too - must've gone straight past it!

Hi, we've just had a really good holiday in Scotland, Dumfries and Galloway - copy and paste this link - http://www.hoseasons.co.uk/productSite.aspx?SiteCode=AUCH&theme=parks&engine=Adwords!8588&keyword=(Auchenlarie+park)&match_type=
If you like caravan holidays and have got 2 dogs then this is the place for you!  There's loads to do in the area, dogs are allowed on the beaches, there are woodland walks, it's great.

Oh Auchenlarie is lovely :) I used to own a caravan there, but my present job doesn'e give me enough time off to enjoy it. You're right it is a lovely park, very dog friendly and with a lovely little private beach that is perfect for the borzois as all you have to do is watch the hill to see anyone coming down.

It does look nice, lovely that the dogs are allowed in the dining room, but it wouldn't suit mine I don't think - the boys would like the resident goldens :(

Hi There

We went to Cornwall last year stayed at a lovely cottage in a little hamlet called Trefanny Hill, it was gorgeous.
Most of the cottages are dog friendly and all have their own enclosed gardens, there is a big pond and wildlife walk on the doorstep then mazes of little country lanes etc.... it was close to Looe.
think the website is www.trefannyhill.co.uk  if not just do a search on trefanny hill, it wasnt cheap but well worth it, so quiet, the cottage we stayed at was hillside, which had a really big lawn and a walled in garden, it was also on its own at the end of the hamlet so didnt get anyone walking past etc... the lounge floor was quarry tiled too so the dogs loved it to cool down on.
