Heckington CS
Her name is spelt wrong but it was wrong in the catalogue too
Only a baby, 6 months and one week old, in good coat, nice condition, gentle expression, good mouth set, nice eye, good front and rear angles, correct tail set. Moved well.
He was a Golden Judge too so I am sooooooooo pleased with her report. She was the only one in the class so it was hard to tell what he really thought at the time but that has made my day :D She has her name mentioned for her 2 3rds as well (AV gundog puppy & AV Minor puppy)
Exciting isn't it :D :D :D Been waiting ages to see it - once you've had a few reports does the feeling wear off or do you all wait eagerly for publication every time ?

I'm thrilled to bits Jane :D I believe they don't tend to say bad things but he said more good than I'd hoped for :)
The show was 27th July so maybe yours will be next week if it was early August.

I cut out Tyler's critiques and put them in his photo album along with his prize cards.

I used to have the cards in the sea through pockets in their folder behind a written list of show results (Date, show, judge, award) and put the critiques in a scrapbook.
One dayat a firends house I saw her latest cards, and on turning them over found the critiques stcuk to the back!
I now do the same, so the deatails are all together, and pulling out any card shopws you what the judge wrote.

No it does not wear off even if you know it's a load of nonsence, I even enjoy seeing my dogs name in print, daft cow. And yes the more people you know the longer it takes to read the paper which is why at the moment I'm about 6 weeks behind. It was a nice critque, he was pleased with all her important parts, well done, before you know where you are you will be entering shows just to see the write up. Ja:)kie

just realised I missed Elkhounds off my list Jackie but I do read them too :D
It'd be nice to be entering shows just to see the write up but I'd have to win all the time and that may be a problem ;)
I was expecting the tail set comment as overheard him say that and was very pleased with the rest of what was said :D Now I have to be patient for the Horncastle results to get a different view of her :D

Well if your realy nice to me I could write you a critique after every Tuesday night if you like, that providing I manage to get going again. It has been better today, but don't tell anyone. Ja:)kie

OK - you're on and bad foot or not I expect you to be there week after next. No "handler" comments though unless they're nice ;)
Hope it's not a walking holiday you're going on
By Jackie H
Date 19.09.02 20:02 UTC
No its not a holiday at all, going to look after my sisters smallholding whilst she goes to Greece. So it will be more than dogs for me next week, but I don't have to walk anything other that the dogs. I'll watch the sheep don't tread on my feet though, it seems to be a favourite hobby of sheep, treading on my feet that is, had the odd horse do it too. Do you think they are trying to tell me something. Ja:)kie

Jackie IDidn't know you had a dog named Daft Cow - It must be that one I've heard so much about!!!

I still look for mine I hadn't shown for a while until I got Cava and have been very lucky to have had write ups for all his places. You may find that some judges don't do crits which can be dead annoying. Hope you get loads and loads

Sorry Anne you live too far away for me to do one for you. Jackie

Thanks Jackie
I could send you a photo if you like or even Cava :-). I know what you would say tho' hope he does not grow anymore, he's had that in every crit, must admit he is a big lad.
This is a bit of thread but he was an only pup do you think that could be why he is large

I'd understand that giving him a good start Anne but would things even out when growings done ? Is final height determined by parents size ?
Sara :)

Date 20.09.02 07:42 UTC
Parent size - I supose it must but it is not that obvious, you can and do get dogs that are below the norm & above in the same litter. Most being within the standard range. What does change a lot is when the pup does their growing. Your babe is a slow grower, being as a pup smaller than one might expect. Anne's boy being bigger, if the critiques are correct. When you look at a puppy in a class you see a little one and think I hope it grows and you write in your critique, 'nice little girl' - 'has some growing to do' - 'Small but a nice puppy' - 'still a long way to go', get the idea. With Annes the judge would think that he looks nice because he will be looking more like an adult but will then think good greif if he carries on like that he will get too big so writes 'a big boy' - ' hope he grows no more' - 'fine upstanding' - 'should have a good future' - ' a little too big for me but perhaps he's finnished growing' - 'nice puppy, too tall' There now I've let you into judge speak.
The fact remains that most puppies finnish up about the correct size for the breed and if they are a bit large or small it will not matter except if you are thinking of breeding with the dog, when you will need to make sure you do not make the matter worse by chosing a mate that is inclined to have large or small dogs in their background.
Sorry that is long winded, just saying in the end they all finish up more or less the correct size, and if they are good otherwise they will still do well, unless they are of a breed that is measured in the ring. Ja:)kie

Thank you Ladies - I even read it out to a non doggy friend and she was good enough to say "well done" even though she hadn't a clue what it was about :D :D
My face is aching from grinning since I read it - sad aren't I lol !!!! Even just to see her name in print would have made me smile :)

Well done Sara - and Phoebie too :)

Very well done Sara, I was reading it this morning on the train to work :-) Takes me ages to read the papers too as I read all the critiques of everyone I know and many other breed notes especially if written by someone I know ;-)
I have a couple of critiques outstanding so have recently written a nice letter to the judges. I got a second opinion from Mattie that the letter sounded okay. :-) Not heard anything yet but only posted it a couple of days ago so it will be very interesting to see if they respond, I did include an SAE so fingers crossed!

Hi Claire,
Where do you get the addresses for the judges from to ask for the critiques. :)
Jane :)
Well one of the judges is the president of a club down South so I got her address from a schedule. The other 2 judges were both listed in a champ show catalogue as I knew their breed and affix so got the address from there.
Failing that the secretary of the show in question would probably have their address but not sure if he/she would give it out as this is the first time I have tried this. Hope it works :-)

Hi Sara
It IS a lot nicer to share your good news with other doggy minded people who dont look at you gone out when you are talking dogs !! LOL
When I got the Dog CC at Crufts (well not actually me but the dog!! <G> ) I went to work the following day on cloud nine and tried telling my work colleaguea about what I had done expecting them to show the same enthusiasm that my doggy friends had when I told them but it was like telling them dogs have four legs and a tail!! all the reponse I got was " Oh whats that??"
Well done!!
