well tomorrow is the big day-we're off for a week's holiday in Thropton. Just done a search and copied out all the suggestions from CDers when I posted about it previously. Fingers crossed for some dry weather!
Hope Bonnie will behave cos I think we will be surrounded by sheep and she's not seen one before!

If there are too many sheep where you are come down to Tyne & Wear/Whitley Bay (30-45 min south) - I can give you a few walks with no livestock to worry about. We were at the beach this morning and it was beautiful.

Thropton is a lovely little village, you'll get a great meal in the Three Wheat Heads, and it's way out in the wilds of Northumberland. Rothbury is only a few miles east, and is a great little place too.

You must get to Alnwick Castle and Garden, it's just been voted the best tourist attraction in the UK. Check out Beadnell, Craster and Seahouses on the coast, and don't miss Bamburgh Castle either. The beach at Bamburgh is exeptional too.

I hope the sun shines, for my sake as much as yours, I'm just 3 miles from Morpeth, which is about 3/4 of an hour from Rothbury and Thropton.

Northumberland is Britains best kept secret..............shhhhh.

Don't get stuck on the causeway to the holy island would be my advice!!

oh yes, Northumbria is our favorite place to go when you want beautiful, quiet beaches (I don't know why the whole country doesnt know about this secret yet, they are so lovely)

...would recommend Bamburgh and Embleton (Embleton is just a little village but I particularly love that stretch of beach, it's gorgeous!)

Thanks all of you! Gone 10pm and still packing  Nursey i'll look out for you-- we have one pretty lively golden retriever who wears a very fetching red harness and runs up to everyone and sits down next to their legs!
forecast a bit cloudy with some rain over the next few days
