Hello,
I am getting married next June!!!
I am wanting to have my honeymoon in the scottish isles with the dogs (oh and the OH!! :-D)
I am thinking of Mull, Iona, Colonsay, Islay or Jura. Can you suggest which island - I need help!!? My criteria is that it is quiet (I like remote) but to still have enough to do within driving distance with the dogs (I don't leave my dogs at all they join in everything). Also, due to the amount of luggage that my dogs take it must be an island that I can drive to either by bridge or by ferry ;-D
Also, can you suggest places to visit on these islands with the dogs or even a place to stay - must have an enclosed garden.
Thanks
GG

Hi
First of all Congratulations on your brilliant news :)

Have a look on the 'General' board and dog Holidays posted by JaneG not the Scottish Isles but Scotland so near enough!

If you do get to Mull, let me know what it is like, as it is one of the places I really want to visit!

Maria :)

Thankyou. I have seen this post and I have already done the area stated several times so would like to have a "special" holiday in the scotish isles.

This site might give you some ideas http://www.scotland-info.co.uk/ . If you want a bridge you will need to do Skye all the rest will need a ferry. :-)

I've been going to Colonsay since I was six.  I'm now 37 and go with my husband, children and dogs and I still love it.  I take my dogs everywhere with me (GSD's) and they love the beaches and walks.  My husband and I have just managed a holiday on our own before our most recent child was born, with the dogs of course!  The ferry from Oban takes about 2 1/4 hours and depending on the boat in use, I leave my dogs in the car with the windows and sunroof open if the car is on the open deck, otherwise if the car is in the bowls of the ship they have to come up to the top deck - a process that they don't enjoy very much.  The island doesn't have very many 'organised' events but we go because of the people and the outdoors.  You need to check that the house you hire takes more than one dog and if you check the Colonsay website you can have a look at the island, the accomodation and find out about any offers that they have on accomodation.  As you probably know, in the big scheme of things, it's much more expensive than going abroad but in many ways more rewarding - you can take your dogs!
