Hi All, We have had a problem with our bitch never tying with a dog - She has been mated 3 times, firstly to an outside dog - No tie - No Pups. 2nd and 3rd attempt with a different dog - again no tie and again no pups. Now my vet has 'felt' her internally and says he can feel no reason as to why she isn't forming a tie with the stud and we do use ovulation tests. Many people have been talking about an injection they can get to 'make' the bitch have more of a labido and a surge of hormones to 'make' her ovulate although this sort of intervention scares me as i know very little about it. The only thing my vet could find was 'Receptal' which is only licensed for cattle so really do not wish to go down that route.
Does anyone have any information on this injection either receptal or otherwise, and has anyone had this similar problem?
Any help greatly appreciated.

The issue I would have is how much would you want to breed from a bitch with fertility problems you could be looking at the same problems in the next generations and so on.
Hi JaneG, we are trying to assist with the mating, the dog we're using has tied with every other bitch and is a proven sire, its seems to be my girl which i am gutted about. Generally he gets on and in very easily and by himself, he's 'going for gold' shall we say, i hold them together, but his 'knot' seems to form and swell on the outside of the bitch and of course when he turns simply falls right back out and ejaculates all over the floor. I have tried holding him in but just never seem to get anywhere
Hi Isabel
I hear what you are saying, and is something that does play on my mind. However i do feel she's worth the effort of trying, she's such a beautiful girl :o)

The lack of pups and the no tie can be totally unrelated. I have mated a bitch before that never ties and has had puppies twice. She never ties. ( not my bitch but a freinds bitch but my dog)

Has the vet examined her? She could have a vaginal stricture which prevents the dog penetrating her.

my friend had this problem, the male was a bit too keen shall we say and the bitch was standing but a little on the loose side, she took the pair to a man who had breed for 30 years and he held them together and they got a 30 min tie, shes only a few weeks but signs are good, must add thought hey where both madiens, but both keen with a good sex drive i'm not sure if it is right to breed from a dog with no or little sex drive unless it is important to hight standards in your line or if they are really good examples to the breed, but thats my opinion. Have they been shown at all? had tests done etc? I could give you the number of someone who could help but i'm not sure where you are and if you could travel
