Topic Other Boards / Foo / sending e-mails in different language?
- By Ktee [au] Date 13.08.07 22:50 UTC
I have recently got in contact with an uncle in Germany, however my german is very bad,and his english is non existant.I am sure i heard of some way to send e-mails that will translate into whatever language you want.Say,i write an e-mail in english and then press a button(i hope it's that easy) and it then translates into my selected language. And what about his e-mails?I'm having trouble reading them, can i translate them to english?

Thanks for any help you can give :)

Try this one Ktee.

I use systran, but I'm sure it's just the same as the one that Isabel linked. You just paste your email into the box and click translate then copy and paste the german version into your email. I've noticed that the translators sometimes do strange things, and have problems with tenses but they serve well enough to get the jist of emails and to be understood in return :)

There is also a translation option on email if you have 'outlook' both sending and receiving which I use quite often to translate German to English!

To be honest I wouldn't do it this way. I tried out some of the translations sites and  what it translated (both from English to Swedish and vice versa) was total nonsense and nothing anyone would have been able to understand. I've also received e-mails sent this way, translated from one language to English, and I couldn't understand a thing.

Here's an example LOL. I typed "Hej, jag heter Marianne och jag föder upp hundar". That should be translated as "Hello, my name is Marianne and I breed dogs." This is what came out:
Hello, I am called Marianne and I gives birth to up dogs.

translation websites are often very poor translations but may be adequate for your needs. I speak fluent german, so pm me if you would like any help.

ROFL That made me laugh out loud :D :D

I tried the Link Isabel posted,i couldnt figure out the one Jane linked to :( Isabels was easy to use but it came back with what you described Marianne, just a jumbled mix of words that would make for very confusing reading for the recipient.I think some languages are written so differently they are impossible to translate word for word.

Well i think the uncle just has to learn English! :D

Thanks for your kind offer Cathy :)

OK here is a question can you copy and paste chinese translation or do you have to have the chinese enabled on your puter fonts ??

I have to get a load of documents translated for work

ljs, where there are different alphabetic characters then you need to enable those characters but its very easy to do on any computer. The biggest problem you will have is remembering which keys are for which characters.......i write a lot in czech and have bought a set of small stickers you put on the keyboard which show the different characters in a different colour. These can be bought cheaply on ebay!!!
