Nothing too outlandish... my neighbour has just suggested rubbing a gold wedding band on it () :D

PS I think you can buy antibiotic eye cream over the counter these days with pharmacist advise can't you?

Sleep, rest, fruit and vegetables and no looking at the PC - styes are normally because you are tired and run down. You can also use some cotton wool, warmed up with boiled water (not too hot) to bring it to a head if its infected and wanting to burst :)

It's something in the gold that helps with the wedding ring remedy:rolleyes: failing that you can buy over the counter remedy from your chemist!
You can hold a hot spoon close to your eye too, but as Carla says, 'not too hot'!

Golden Eye ointment used to be the thing to use. I have heard that they took it off the market for a while but it is now back on sale but whether it is still as good I don't know. What I do know is that it used to actually stop the stye and take all the soreness away.

Yes you can still get golden eye ointment, if you catch it in time Liv you will be spared the puss and crusts :D

If you put a cotton wool pad in very hot water and hold it against your eyelid, contrary to all the beauty advice that is offered, this may help; at least it will help keep the oil ducts in your eyelid clear.  Also a cotton bud dipped in baby shampoo (diluted) and used to wipe the eyelid where the eyelash line is will help too.

Make sure you "keep an eye" :-) :-) on it and see your practice nurse or GP if it doesn't clear in a few days.  I get anxious about styes because that's what I thought I had and it turned out to be a basal cell carcinoma.  I don't want to worry you in any way, but I was totally ignorant about the fact that I could get a tumour on my eyelid and thought it was just a stye.  A whole year later I've still got problems.

I'm very prone to eye infections :rolleyes: but I've only ever had a stye once. It's best to try to get it to come to a head and drain as otherwise it can lead to a chalazion (posh name for a cyst) which is at best unsightly at worst you need an operation to remove it like I did . I brought my stye to a head by using a freshly boiled egg still in its shell (not so hot that it burns!) and put it on the lid. Repeat a few times a day. You don't have to use an egg though.. it's just that it retains heat better than the cotton wool! Plus... breakfast! Actually the best thing you can do is take a trip to the doc or to the pharmacy for antibiotic gel. Just be careful not to use it for too long... it can irritate your eyes so you don't know when the infection has cleared or if it's just the eyedrops!

You can put some pressure on it to relieve the build up- then keep up on the eye care in hopes it doesn't return...

My friends daughter gets this all the time- she is always putting warm cloths on her eye and eye drops from the doctor...

I would leave it at this stage... it should burst. If you squeeze it you might get an infection in it

The links were really helpful :) I'd never had one of these before. decided I'd better not squeeze it and wiped it with a cotton bud sprayed with the dogs colloidal silver before bed and it dissapeared! :) phew! will have to throw out all my eye make up to be sure... (*weeps*)
