What sort of leather? Saddles? Upholstery? Clean what off it? Grease? Wine? More details needed!

What do the manufacturers recommend?

Tricolours,

Take it from one who nearly learnt a very expensive lesson...
It is not just the cleaning that will keep your suite in good condition but the 'treating' of the leather too ( so a good cleaner that combines the two will be a god send!)
I went to bed a few months back and left a glass (the size of a small fishbowl ;) ) of Red wine on the window ledge behind my white leather corner sofa (which we had imported for Italy at great hassle)
I failed to notice that in the time it took me to go round switching everything off before bed one of the dogs had knocked the glass all over the sofa
and I mean...ALL over! I came down in the morning and it was like a scene from Hammer House of Horror!
It had merrily soaked in and dried over night....
Every last bit came off and there was no stain!!! and Im convinced this is due to the cleaner/treater we used every other week on it!
It was amazing :)
(My main crime there of course was wasting good wine ;) )

HuskyGal you didnt mention which one you used, it sounds perfect please tell me what it is called. :)

Thanks to a Car Mad OH and all our cars having leather seats, he insisted that we use Auto Glym we use the leather cream treater (linked) every other week and the spray gun cleaner for day to day. (The spray gun cleaner is brilliant even when the sofa 'looks' clean I use this and am amazed at how much dirt lifts off :) Really glad I listened to him, its fairly expensive but well.. as my Red Wine nightmare proves its worth every penny :)

There are no instructions.

I uae baby wipes to clean it on a regular basis and a proprietary cream to nourish it once a year.

For day to day cleaning, I use Leather cleaning wipes, but I have got a full leather cleaning kit that came with my sofas.

Also Argos sell them: http://www.argos.co.uk/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/Search?storeId=10001&catalogId=1500000701&langId=-1&searchTerms=leather+cleaning&go.x=0&go.y=0

I do mine with just warm water with a bit of detergent but I understand it can vary because the manufacturers put a variety of finishes on them so really they should have advised you want was best.  Can you ask the shop to find out for you?
- By Dogz Date 09.08.07 14:49 UTC
Dont clean mine really.............A hoovering and occasional wipe as required is mine gets. Then I am not a person who does much in the way of chores around the house that can possibly get away with not being done! :-D

we have just purchased our 2nd leather suite and the nice man at the shop told us to use simple soap, my last suite lasted me 14 years and now belongs to my nephew and his new family
- By Tricolours [gb] Date 10.08.07 07:29 UTC
But wouldnt soap dry it out ?
- By Brainless [gb] Date 10.08.07 10:56 UTC
My freind always uses baby wipes too.
- By LindaMorgan [gb] Date 10.08.07 11:47 UTC
simple soap has nothing in it that is why it is used by people who have delicate skin also, it doesn't dry it out at all
- By MariaC [gb] Date 10.08.07 13:17 UTC
You can buy a leather cleaner which also feeds it and supposed to keep it supple.  I found using that and warm water with a mild soap is all that's needed.

ok i will give it a go. Thank you. :)

I wonder if this will work.
