It is a genetic fault of the nares.  We should be breeding such anomalies out not in.  What's the bet that this trait is linked to cleft palates.  I remember seeing photos I think of Springers or another gundog with this anomaly.

That just looks weird

errrrrrr  is that how its supposed to look or is the dog just been born with a deformity
- By Brainless [gb] Date 10.08.07 08:54 UTC
Well a lot of traits of domestic dogs started out as a mutation or deformity, different coat types, or absence, short legs short muzzles.  it is whether these traits are to the dogs advantage or disadvantage which is the ethical question.

A dog shouldnt have 2 noses whatever the breed should it? If they were meant to have 2 they would be born with 2 I think!

Umm these were born with two :D

Here is a link to a stff with this condition, and as I thought it is hare lip so will be liked with cleft palates. http://crazylinkz.blogspot.com/2006/06/duo-2-nose-dog.html

Is it due to over cross breeding or natural? As the dog doenst look to happy in the pic, unless it was just moody that day!

These things are mutations.  A Friend of mine little girl was born with a serious cleft and hare lip, whether these are just accidental or heritable I am unsure.

On googling I have found several references to faulting split nose in breed standards like the Beauceron and Pyrynean Mastiff, so it must be something that has turned up enough for it to be faulted.

Isn't there a Portugese or Spanish hound that has a double nose?   It's used for hunting ;)
- By MariaC [gb] Date 10.08.07 13:14 UTC
it just looks like 2 nostrils seperated in the middle to me rather than 2 noses
- By Brainless [gb] Date 10.08.07 13:16 UTC
Yep either a partial hare lip.
- By MariaC [gb] Date 10.08.07 13:19 UTC
It was mentioned about appearing like a hare lip or cleft pallet on the news this morning
