It was my great nans 100th birthday yesterday and the evening post took a pic of my great nan with me and my son as she is the eldest in the family and my son is the youngest, theres 5 generations of us, its crazy to think of it like that. Cant wait to see what they have wrote.
I think the most fascinating thing must be the changes in the world a person of that age must have lived through. I would imagine the last 100 years has seen more change than any time before.
I love old people, I love chatting to them, I work with them and can state catergorically that growing old is not for the faint hearted I truly dont know if I am tough enough for it. Karen...........
After spending the day with my nan yesterday i dont think i would like to get to that age, she kept getting very confused and didnt even properly understand it was her birthday and that she was 100, it was very sad to see her like that.
I think the sad thing for many older people is that as they are a little bit slower to speak etc, they see people getting twitchy and so dont bother. People dont just reach a certain age and then confusion sets in, it's possible for very young people suffer confusion too for various reasons. I do think on the whole people dont give them enough time and patience. I am sorry though for your nan if she is starting to get confused because it's hard for eveyone. Karen :-)

I've just come back from visiting friends in Poland; one of them has two grandparents alive - a grandfather of 105 and a grandmother of 103! They live with their "children" but both drink vodka and smoke on a daily basis! It's incredible although they do look their age from the photo I saw. Apparently they are in good health!
