I am going away tomorrow and my bitch has come into season. I have 3 dogs and they are going into kennels, will they still take her?
Whenever I go away something always happens. Usually someone is ill. They have never been into kennels before and I have been worrying about it anyway, one of them was ill after the kennel cough vaccine and now my bitch is in season. She hasn't had a season since last year and of all the times it has to be just as I'm going away!!

My kennels took my in season bitch last time. I had asked before knowing it might happen and they said as long as they knew before she arrived it would be fine. They put her in the isolation kennel away from the main block.

Yes I thought thats what might happen. Thats what was worrying me. They were all 3 going together. Can't stand the thought or her being on her own. I'll be glad to get back off this hol!!!!!
jane

Well obviously she will ahve to go in on her own unless the others are neutered. As amny people board their bitches when in season it is likely they do have facilities, and of course soem coem in season while there.

Yes mine are neutered, but they won't want a bitch in season where the other dogs are. Am going to give them a ring this morning to let them know. Sods law isn't it that she comes into season just when I don't want her to! She is feeling sorry for herself at the moment.

Well they could put them all into the isolation kennel rather than just her. Most kennels will not house more than two dogs together in the same kennel though.

isolation kennel? that sounds ghastly

what a dreadful experience for a dog.

I would imagine a separate kennel away from the other boarders. I beleive that kennels ahve to ahe isolation facilities?
I expect that a kennel can arrange to have one block with just bitches in where in season ones won't distress entire males.
With so many dogs being neutered I would imagine even in a block of kennels it would be possible to have the in season bitch at one end and the entire dogs right at the other end.

Can't be any worse than owners who kennel their dog while they are at work tho' :)

Why?? What is the difference if they are in their own kennel anyway. Less stressful then being next to lots of strange dogs barking.
That should have gone under Sam's reply

In our kennels the isolation kennel are the same as the others but housed on their own. There are 2 together I think.. Just the same nothing different of disturbing at all :-)

Hi
I cant see why they wouldnt take her in season. I know it is the busy time and they are probably fully booked but what would of happened if you had left her and she came into season the following day.
Hope you can get her sorted as it must be a real worry

Mine usually go in together, my male is neutured but I asked for separate kennels as I know when she gets to the middle week she can flirt with the dog and then he gets a good telling off from her if he gets interested. So from a safety point of view I didn't want a fight between them when there was no one to closely supervise. So it might be worth letting them all have their own space.

The wife has just rang me and she is happy to take her. Mine are neutered too and they are going in together. Neither of mine bothered with her at all last time but she does get grumpy with one of them anyway. I have told them at the kennels and they will monitor things although she did say that for at least 3 nights they have no spare room. I am quite worried. I knew it was too good to be true a trouble free holiday. I feel really stressed today. I sometimes wonder whether holidays are worth all the bother!!!

When my young bitch was in season (not this last time, I bred from her ;) ) I have always put her into kennels. I have an entire male in the household who pines for me, so this was the easiest way. The kennels will always end up with bitches in season and will usually bend over backwards to help out, so long as they know before hand (which you have done :) ) I would enjoy your holiday, the dogs probably will enjoy theirs. :D

Oh I really hope you get this sorted out really quickly and can still get away.
The kennels I've used have tried to put in-season bitches in a block with either only bitches or neutered males. If they know before hand it is easier to have the dogs re-assigned their quarters so that the bitch isn't first put into a block where there are entire males. Obviously there will be times when it just isn't possible, but extra care is taken to try to keep them at opposite ends of the block until space becomes available. Mind you, I was very lucky that my kennel owner actually bred the bitch so it made it a lot easier for me :D She went in with her sister, who was also in season ;)
