ive just gota get this off my chest i am really proper annoyed at the amount of disrespect dog owners have round here
yesterday i was walking kacey down the street thats next to a main road anyway as i pass a pub theres a man there showin off hes two shar pei's one of them was standing in the boot of a car while the other one was on the path anyway as i walked past this shar pei seen kacey and growled then chased her it took me by suprise but i seen kacey running down the road with this dog in tow me following and the man behind me shoutin hes dog i was lucky kacey didnt get killed by a car cause she ran onto a main road but the dog finally stopped on one side while kacey was on the other by this time i had caught up to both dogs the other dogs owner picked his dog up and shoved his way past me you know not a sorry or nothing.
i dont know if its cause he thinks oh its just a kid (im 19 but i look bout 16 lol) that he shouldnt apologise but i was really angry god knows wut hes dog could have done to kacey if it had got hold of her and what would he have done if it had chased an elderly persons dog
surely people should have enough sense to keep their dogs on a lead if they are dog aggressive im just really angry

Was Kacey on a lead, Kerrie?   It's not clear from your posting whether she was on a lead, and the lead was pulled out of your hand, or whether you had her walking to heel, off-lead?   As you say, its a nasty shock!

no kacey wasnt on a lead i did have it with me tho i can trust her 110% off lead she keeps by my side at all time she waits to cross the road and she ignores other dogs aswell but if they come up say hello she will happily sniff them then run back to me she is as harmless as a new born kitten lol

But you see - you weren't able to keep her safe when she was chased - and she ran across a road :(   Far better, imo, to have the dog on the lead whilst road walking - although you can trust her, you cannot trust other dogs :(

Kerrie, I have every sympathy for your very unpleasant experience, but it really does show how important it is to have your dog on a lead when on a public highway. However well trained your dog is, the unexpected can happen. For her safety and your own peace of mind, I am imagining that lead will be on in future! :)

Best wishes
Linda

Sorry Margot- didn't see your post- both saying the same thing!

Although I understand why you're angry at this situation it's a fact that you were in indeed breaking the law. The Road Traffic Act 1988 states that dogs MUST be on a lead when walking on a road.  If you had had your dog on a lead the situation would have been much easier to control.

Just take it as a valuable lesson learned and keep your dog on a lead on roads from now on :)

a dog is a dog and is never even 100% reliable...all the 100% reliable dogs I know who had owners who boasted they were so trustworth they can be walked off lead along the streets are dead... they each eventually got spooked and  ran into the road.

It could be a kid spooks them, a bin bag blowing in the wind, a firework thrown your way or a dog or even a cat attacking them ( that happened once to my dog ) . Anything can happen.

If your dog runs into a road and driver takes avoiding action even inocent peope can be hurt or killed just because you failed to put the dog on a lead.

You were very very very lucky.

Im 19 but i look bout 16 lol
but as well as being lucky that day also how lovely to look young for your age...in a decade or two you will be so glad of this!

i kno i guess i was at fault aswell if i had seen the other dog she would have gone straight on the lead i only seen the one in the boot but i do take responsibility for bein a bit careless

Kerrie - it is always better safe than sorry. However well trained our dogs are I have learnt to always expect the unexpected :)

Very sensible Kerrie. The dog that almost cost my OH his life "had walked by that road hundreds of times without running on to it". He was lucky he didn't run head on into another car and the owner walking her dog off-lead by a road cost us £600 in repairs; and we're lucky when you think about what might have happened. You've learned your lesson but I'm hoping other people reading this post might start using their lead too :)
