Hi all,

I am after any tips on making grooming more pleasant...
At present i am brushing our cavvy boy who is 5 months old once a day with a slicker brush. He completely objects to grooming at all!!

He won't sit still so i end up having to sort of try and pin him down while i brush and i end up getting bitten and clawed to pieces!

We have tried special treats and a pigs ear and his favourite toy but nothing seems to work, am i grooming him too frequently or am i expecting too much because of his age?
I can't leave his coat unbrushed as i don't want it to mat. He is happy for me to check him over daily for lumps etc but when the brush comes out he goes mad!

Put him on a table top with a mat to stop him slipping.  Put a hook in the wall about the height of his head but in line with his shoulder.  You can hang a picture on it when you're not grooming!  Stand him on the table, tie his lead to the hook so that you have 2 hands to work with and get on with his grooming, praising him when he stands still and telling him "No" firmly when he wriggles.  I usually give a treat when I've finished.  Or of course, you can nag for months, trying to offer him treats every few seconds and not getting any grooming done at all! :)

A slicker brush is great but you may find that a medium comb will be better tolerated and will remove the undercoat efficiently.  Definitely use a comb on the ears and furnishings.
