Does anyone have a vet who stocks (or know where I can source) a single vaccine from?

One of my dogs has come back low for Distemper (after being titre tested) and I am trying to source the Distemper vaccine as the suppliers my vets use don't appear to produce Distemper on it's own. We had exactly the same problem last year, they were again low on Distemper but were fine for the other two and as my vets couldn't get hold of the single vaccine we had to give them the full set (and I know that just because the titre is low doesn't mean they aren't immune).

Impossible to get in the UK, unlike single Parvo 

Schering-Plough makes the "Galaxy-D" single distemper vaccine for the US .

The only thing I can think of would be to try and ship one over from the manu in the US through your vet, but I don't know what the cost and implications of this would be. 

I have my dogs titre tested annually, one of my dogs came back low on one of the diseases therefore had to have the adenovirus, distemper and parvo trio.

the only way to get a single vaccine to my knowledge is to buy the whole box!

Even more expensive than the titre testing which is horrendous enough!

HuskyGal - thanks for that information, I managed to track him down in the end (he has changed practices 3 times since he worked in Hindhead :D ) and spoke to his receptionist (he was consulting at the time). She didn't think he could get hold of the single vaccine but said she would ask him for me and get him to call me back if he could help. Well I never got a call back so I assume he can't get single Distemper. Thanks for the help though (incidentally we are also in Surrey so it would have been very convenient if he could have sourced the vaccine :p ).

Because of the issues with vaccines that we all know to well and the brick walls that we come up againsts to be different, I have told my vet, "My dogs will have what your own dogs have." Needless to say, they have a completely different vaccine routine to that recommended by the drug companies and so far I'm happy with that.

Just an idea maybe?

ice cosmos has titre tested and knows the distemper cover is low.  Unless your vets regime is to vaccinate more often than the recommended regime where would the advantage lay for them?

I don't titre test and would not really know what would be ultimatly the right course of action if I did. I did ask for it last time though, but was told that the titre test can come back with different results from 1 month to the next, depending.

I am just a concerned, though not medically trained owner who wants to do the best for her pets. It was easier to take what I thought would be a clever short cut to an answer on the question of safety of vaccinations.

This vets dogs are adored and I know he would never take a chance with their welfare. He's far more educated and has a deep intrest and first hand knowledge on the subject, which amazed and impressed me.

I mentioned it only as a suggestion. 

I think most vets are very well educated and many are pet owners :)  The trouble with taking one individual's concept of an appropriate regime is they cannot, practically, have trialled it whereas the recommended regime will have been thoroughly trialled.  However if you trust your vet and you are following some sort of regular vaccination regime I can't see that can be too bad as I am sure the regimes will allow considerable margin for safety :)

Incidentally Viv, what vac regime does your vet follow?  Just interested from an educational point of view.  Feel free to PM if you prefer.  :-)

Your vet is absolutely right of course; the titre rest result can vary taken at different points of time. 

Ice cosmos has found that the distemper vaccine does not provide a measurable level of immunity lasting for 3 years. Something we should all be aware of.
