Hi im abit worried and would like some info my girl was mated 10 days ago (day 12 of season) the last couple of days she has got really big around her belly, now i know its not pups because she would only be 10 days if she caught, but everything else is fine, shes not sick shes not drinking any more than normal shes eating normal and is bright and bubbly, its just her stomach is really big, i rang the vets and they said it could be the onset of early pregnancy or phantom pregnancy but i have never know a bitch to get big this early, now she is normally quite a lean bitch so dont know if that could make a difference, has anyone every known a bitch to get big round the belly this early, sorry for rambling just getting abit worried.

My first reaction is bloat, but you'd know by now if that was the cause.

I think you should take her to the vet- they can hardly diagnose over the phone. This sounds as though it could be something or nothing-personally, I would want her seen asap.

Best Wishes
Linda

Sorry my OP was meant to say i ran the vets and took her up, they checked her temp and it was normal and told me just to keep a eye on her and if she stops eating or becomes sleepy or sick to take her back, and he said its probly just onset of early pregnancy or phantom pregnancy.

One of my girls blows up like this whether she's mated or not, she's always fit and well and doesn't seem to be bothered by it and had her three litters fine.  It's always within 2 weeks of the season starting and then seems to disappear about 5 weeks afterwards.  I was really worried the first time it happened and never found out the real reason for it.

My older golden always blew up like a football very early on in pregnancy it then went down after a week or so. Fingers crossed that your girl is ok.
