Anyone know of any dog-friendly beaches in Kent? Somewhere where the dogs can have a lovely day out in the sea and by the beach! would be lovely! ideally with no horrible non doggie, dog hater! people hanging around!!!

You could try Seasalter, up Whitstable way.  I've visited it in all seasons with any restrictions - the only bit to worry about are the beach huts, if you start at the Sportsman pub (opposite the caravan park).  There's a lot of rabbits there, and this time of year (excepting smart people staying out of the rain :D) lots of people have barbecues there, very tempting for dogs! :p but there aren't many huts, if you go past them it's nice and quiet as the tourists tend to head the other way (towards whitstable).  There is a sign that says 'private beach' just before the huts - you're allowed to cross the beach if you stay below the line of the sign.

Oh, it's a pebbly beach btw - but a lovely one :)

St. Mary's Bay just past Dymchurch can't be beaten I don't think (but willing to be put right on this!!).  The dog friendly beach is huge and sandy and I have never seen it that busy.  If you want any more details on how to get there, where to park and which side the dog bit is (which is a little confusing) let me know.

Hi Treacle. I'd be interested to know which part of St Mary's Bay is dog friendly-went there a few years ago but I think that was in springtime. I'm not used to this 'no dogs' between such and such, and when you have an hour's drive to get there we don't want to be caught out

How about Dungeness - very wild and woolly pebble beach. We were passing through there last weekend and stopped to let dogs have a run on the beach. Hardly any people around at all - but, with apologies to anyone who lives there, it is somewhere close to the edge of the world (IMHO, allegedly :D ).

Sorry for the delay in replying Hamster.  The signs are really not very clear at all but basically the beach to the left of (nearly) the end of the car park is all dog friendly.  What we tend to do is drive into the car park, stop to buy a ticket (there is only one machine and it is a long way back), then drive left pretty much as far as possible.  We park up on the grass right by the wall.  If you then walk along the concrete the first ramp down to the beach may have 'no dogs etc' painted on the floor.  We just walk to the next ramp which doesn't have any signs.  From what we can tell from other dog-owners and friends who use the beach this is then fine.

Having read this back it is very confusing and not much help - sorry.  It really is worth going to this beach though - brilliant for Kent!! Agree Dungeness also wonderful particularly in the winter if you want to blow the cobwebs away - and the pub (the Pilot) does great fish and chips.
