Misty has a habit of shredding whatever beddding we put down for her.  Some days, she will walk around the house dragging it in her mouth.  We have tried all sorts of things to stop her but she insists on doing it and will quite happily trot around with it (like a child with their security blanket?).  When I say stop she will (for a nano second ;)) and I will put it back.  But 2 mins later she will have it again.

We have tried different types of bedding but they all end up shredded with copious amount of holes and of course I get left with little bits of rag all over the floor!  She now has a plastic dog bed (we actually found something she wont chew) but is this enough comfort wise?

We have tried just leaving the blanket/bedding down when we are out but still the same.  We have tried leaving a kong etc to distract her from chewing the bedding but she ignores them until we get back :rolleyes:  The same with apples and even her own food in her bowl.  She just insists on chewing her bedding and watching the food until we get back then she will eat......  We also have a bare patch of wall where she has decided to eat the plasterboard and wallpaper :rolleyes:.

Any suggestions??

Jack did this too, by day we put the bed out of the way and only brought it back for night sleeping. Now mostly it is left in the kitchen but he still has his 'show off' moments and we have to remove it again.

Can't help with bedding but try 'bitter apple' spray on the patch of wall, we were down to the bricks on a corner at top of stairs when I used it and it did stop him. Visions of the big bad wolf and huff and puff (chew and chomp) and the house fell down. Vet-medic.com sell it and it needs redoing everyday or two.

can only sugest buying a horse stable mat and cutting it to fit said plastic bed......may give a bit more comfort? we have them under all our hounds vet beds to try and help stop pressure sores.

any of the country stores, like country wide, mole avon, mole valley farmers etc sell them About £16 for an 8 foot one.

I have for the past 10 years or so always had at least one or two dogs that does this, so all my big dogs only have their plastic beds with nothing inside them. Never bothered them and never caused them any problems. :)

I have 3 golden retrievers that all do the same thing. Drives me mad you give them something for comfort and they destroy it, mine now get the plastic bed or the floor.

Now that I ahve laminate and tiel downstairs I ahve soe cotton pile rubber backed mats whixh make god resting/sleeping places for mine.  Other than that they have a 1/4 of a vet bed in the bottom of their plastic beds.
