As many of you know, I share Roxy (a three year old toy poodle) with my mum and dad, so she's not with us all the time and I now have a six day old daughter, Alix.  Roxy's visited me with mum and dad and is fascinated with Alix (although she's only seen her from in someone's arms, although we've let her have a sniff and all she seems to want to do is try and lick her).  She trys to jump into the pram with her and is continually on her back legs trying to see what's going on.  What do we do to make Alix less interesting to her?  I thought I'd be able to manage both a baby and Roxy, but can't see any light at the end of that tunnel now.

Don't worry she will be interested at first but will then calm down and will be fine. The more you can introduce Alix the less Roxy will want to lick her ! It is early days ;)

BTW congratulations :D

Patience and perseverance, although it's 11(nrly12) years since, my girl used to sit at the baby in the pram, almost on gaurd.
The momment the baby cried she would run to us and back and forth til somebody 'saw to the baby'.
She will get the message from you..........

Congratulations on the arrival of baby Alix!

It's understandable that Roxy's fascinated by this strange puppy-thing that makes odd noises, and I found with my new baby that the best thing to do was to allow my two dogs to thoroughly sniff him and lick if they wanted (I kept them from licking his face, but they were free to lick his arms and legs and hands and feet). Their worming was up-to-date so I had no worries on that score. :) I found that once they had satisfied their curiosity they weren't bothered about him any more - keeping them away would just have made them even more interested.

Also, when you change Alix's clothes, let Roxy have a good sniff at the old outfit whilst you're dressing the baby in a change. You need Roxy to become so familiar with the baby that she takes no notice. :)
