Now I don't know how true this is but wondered if any had heard the same thing. A pup was sold at 7 weeks with the 6 weeks free insurance (not the KC one).. He fell and badly injured his leg. The owners took the pup to the vet and he had extensive treatment. Owners put the claim form in and it was rejected, questions obviously were asked and the owners were told that the policy was nul and void as the pup was sold before 8 weeks old., the policy was done online at 7 weeks when the pup left. I am going to get out one of their policy booklets later to read the small print. Had a word with my vet about it as he can issue the same policy directly to owners from 6 weeks of age but the pup has to have a full health check and he has to verify before he can issue. If this is true about the policy it is quite frightening, as I said I am not sure how true this is as I heard this 3rd hand.

I haven't heard that, and without knowing which company it's impossible to say whether or not it's true. PetPlan say that online policies can be started at 6 weeks of age, with injury cover starting straight away and illness cover starting aftr 14 days.

M&S won't insure a dog before 8 weeks of age, and then there is the general exclusion of 28 days before you can make a claim..............the KC insurance doesn't cover a dog before the age of 8 weeks although I'm not sure if this applies to the 6 weeks free insurance

That's good to know about PetPlan :) for any future litters...........

pet plan i think is the only one that insure from 6 weeks.

I have always done my pups with petplan. It was the petplan insurance that nullified the claim as the pup was sold at 7 weeks. From what I have been told by the vet the 6 weeks insurance can only be issued by the vet at 6 weeks old after the pup having a full vet check. I am going to call them tomorrow to check this out as it has quite worrying implications for us all if true

on my cheque book which i call it from pp to cover the puppy when they leave the breeder is from 6 weeks from the hour they leave the breeders home.

it states instant cover 6 weeks free insurance cover for illness and injury from the date of sale

According to PetPlan it can be done online. Try calling them today - insurance companies usually work over the weekend. :)

I do all my pup policies online with petplan albeit mine don't leave until they are 8 weeks. I think this incident was probally Chinese whispers by the sounds of it.  I was just curious if anybody else had heard of this clause. I will call Petplan tomorrow to double check their policy. I have tried before to call them at the weekend before but you get diverted through to a call centre in India, took me nearly an hour once to register 4 pups via the call centre...........never again.

Pet Plan for a short time had a clause about 8 weeks but then scrapped ti and the last info I ahve from them I think says insurance available from 6 weeks.

I did have another Insurance compnaies puppy policies that only started at 8 weeks and I stopped using them.

The KC one did state some time ago that pups should not go to new homes until 8 weeks.  This would be no good for my breed because I truly feel that 7 weeks is the optimum time for my breed, I would never let them go before this time though.

The KC one which offers 6 weeks free insurance doesnt stipulate an age does it? It just says it starts from the sale date?

Never use the KC one as in most cases it is far more expensive.
