I know people have commented in the past on the steep rises in their renewals with this insurance company... well I have the two girls insured with them (Hattie and Her Libship) and my renewal rises have been peanuts and hardly noticeable compared to some peoples experiences....went online for a quote today for Ella and they want over a hundred quid MORE for Ella than they do for Libby - they are exactly the same breed and only three years difference between them so Im a bit peeved to say the least.........................

Can anyone recommend another company with virtually the same benefits please?

Pet Plan!
I used to be with Pet Plan with my last dog, then with Jasper went with M&S - the premiums more than doubled for him this year, and I had 2 to insure so looked around and Pet Plan are actually slightly cheaper than M&S and offer the same benefits!

If you or your husband are over 50 then try Saga.  We have gone back to them from M&S after a 200% increase this year.  In the past I found them good when I claimed and I like the level of cover they offer.

Just to update

I went for a quote direct to Axa who are M&S underwriters
M&S wanted £241 for the little un and Axa quoted £143- what a difference!! and its the SAME policy!

Our insurance with Helathy Pets only went up a few poounds on last year and they ar underwritten by AXA.  Just over £128 for a male Elkhound of 5 1/2 years living in Hereford.  £50 excess as with most.  Covers travel abroad too.

I have 2 min poodles and a standard poodle insured with More Than and the premiums are very reasonable and the coverage is good.  I have been insured with them for at least 10 years and have found that the premiums dont seem to go up by more than a £1 a year - 15 month old standard poodle is £10.99/month 3yr old min poodle £10.99/month and my 11yr old min poodle is now £13.99/month which is I am assuming because of her age.  The only draw back to my recomendation is that I have never had to put in a claim so I have no idea what they are like at paying out.  Maybe someone else uses them and has experience with this side of it.

They are ok at paying out.

BUT you are ok in Scotland.

I'm in Berkshire and they hike the premiums year on year.

I've had a £5 per month hike on a 3yo Boxer bitch this year.
Last year my other bitch who is now 6yo hiked by 50%

Pet Plan!
Pet plan are great at paying out for most things, but its no where near as good as the m and s policy, for a start the excess for pet plan is £80, despite the policy being around the same price, so there are very few vets bills you can actually claim for, as most small problems, like vomiting bugs, ear or eye infections usually come to just under that. Whereas with m and s i can claim for anything as long as i wasn't excluded from that when i joined, (which luckily i have no exclusions.) For me pet plan was way more expensive anyway. I'm told sainsburys do quite good cover, lthough not as good as m and s and pet plan.

I was going to change to M&S last year, glad I didn't now. Lloyds have £50 excess and at £15 per dog per month its not too bad. Also never had a problem with them paying out even when the bill was nearly £2000  If they have 'small' problems which I initially pay for I think you have 3 months to claim for any ongoing treatment and with the price of vet bills it doesn't take long before you can claim. It cost me £70 the other week when I took Mikki because of her poorly ears (antibiotics, consult, treatment) and taking her back next week for the all clear so will be putting a claim in soon ;) Couldn't change Maddie onto anything else now even if I wanted to

M and s have now stopped the no excess policy for all existing and new customers from august.
- By bestdogs Date 27.07.07 10:36 UTC
Can you clarify that statement please? :) I have my renewed policy from June- are you saying M&S will stop the no excess on new policies and renewals from August, but existing policies will run their full extent with it?  They are surely not altering their terms in mid-policy?

Best wishes
Linda

cannot see this happening they must inform all existing policies about this.
- By briedog [gb] Date 27.07.07 11:18 UTC
well just rang them and yes they are stoping 0 excess when youe new policies is due up,

the excess will be £50 under 9 years old 9 and over £50 plus 15 % of the total claim,

so i be going with pinncles  with all four when the renew due up.

they can do this as the contact policies are renewed yearly.
so pe condition will still be claimed, but you have to pay the excees each year
- By bestdogs Date 27.07.07 11:51 UTC
Thanks for sharing that info with us Terri. Assumed that was the case. I am pleased my renewal was before they made this change. They seem to be almost deciding policy 'on the hoof' as it were- things seem to change so frequently with them! I am very sorry for people who are due for renewal in August. The attraction with this policy was the Nil Excess.

I shall have to stay with them as I have one with an ongoing condition and also a 9 year old.

Best wishes
Linda

I have just received the renewal for my Xbreed today from M&S and the nil excess option has been removed :( As he has an ongoing condition, it is not feasible for me to change to a new company but as I have claimed a lot and the premiums are still reasonable (£165 for the year) I am happy to continue with M&S.

Am still slightly shocked though that my large Xbreed now costs more than my pedigree giant breed to insure though!!

I have just had my re-newals through for my lot so ive got another year of no excess - then I will be moving companies, for the four of mine im now paying an extra £25 per month - Alfies has more than doubled, and one of the cats has gone up more than the other
- By briedog [gb] Date 28.07.07 07:49 UTC
3 out of the 4 have double chase is due in dec was he will not have the 0 excees the girls have untill next july.
- By lucyandmeg [gb] Date 30.07.07 15:21 UTC
Clairey-s, wouldn't it be better to move now if possible because if you have to claim for something this year you will be excluded for that condition if you change policies next year. Just a thought!

i use a company called healthy pets and they have been excellent with us, we got del insured then four weeks later found out del had a luxating patella, and they paid out straight away with no questions, been really good with us.
- By Brainless [gb] Date 30.07.07 20:58 UTC
That is good as our Import is insured with them, but we have never had to make a claim.
