Topic Other Boards / Foo / Cat in season and four month old male

Hi everyone,

Smellie my little tortie cat is in season and we have a four and a half month old male called Bubba.
Do any of you who own cats know if he can do the dirty deed? or should I seperate them for safety's sake. Smell is a tiny female and has had one season which she benefitted from enormously both physically and mentally so I am not too keen on spaying her just yet

Bubba shall be snipped when he is six months old. They are both indoor cats so no danger of her being accosted in a dark lane late at night by an amorous tom

at that age, yeah he can, and i hate to say this, probably already has. one of my cats got pregnant at that age by her brother. swift trip to vet needed! snippety snip.
though, if they had, you would have heard it if you were in the house at the time, as she would yell!

Yes, at 4 months he certainly could do the deed - and she might not necessarily scream! Be aware also, that your little girl can come into season every 3 weeks in the breeding season (i.e. from January to about the end of September, October).

When I was breeding persian cats, I had one who had just had a litter, and I certainly didn't want her having a second litter immediately after having reared 6 kittens, and so, to keep her from my stud cat Brumas ( a white persian), I kept her enclosed with my 4month old potential stud, Buster, the Rasta (a black) ....... 63 days later, we had a litter of 3 blue creams, 1 tortie & 2 black kittens - and neither of them said a word!!!! Dilly was also fine, but I made sure she had no other kittens for another 18 months.

After that, I would NEVER EVER trust a male kitten over the age of 3 months!

Most definitely yes! Not only should you get the tom sorted, but you should have your queen checked to see if she is already pg. If she is, you can still spay her now. I know it doesn't sound very nice, but it really would be for the best. For every kitten that is born and finds a home, another is put to sleep in a shelter because there just aren't enough homes for them all.
