how can u tell if u have a 100% staff???
- By Jackie H [gb] Date 16.09.02 13:32 UTC
Don't think you can.
- By Brainless [gb] Date 16.09.02 13:35 UTC
If he is Kennel club registered as such, and has come from an established reputable breeder, and the pedigree is a good one containing well known dogs, then you are more likely to have one.

If you have bought one from a pet shop dealer or man up the road, without any papers, or even with then you cannot be sure at all.

I have DLC papers and it shows 4 generations of her breeding. Is this ok???

The Dog Lovers Registration Club was set up by the proprietor of a large scale retail pet outlet. No reputable breeder would sell ttheir puppies to a third party.

The dog Lovers registration club registers any dog with whatever information the breeder wishes to provide, which may or may not be true. It is used mainly by puppy farmers or others who cannot register their puppies with the Kennel club. Reasons for this may be that the parents are not registered, or the mother has had too may litters or is to young. Possibly the breeders are so lacking in knowledge in canine matters that they weren't aware of the Kennel club.

This registry does not run any shows or trials, does not run health screening schemes.

In most peoples eyes the papers you have are not worth the paper they are written on, and point to the fact that your pup is not responsibly bred.

I do hope she turns out well for you, but you certainly shouldn't consider breeding from her, as you have no way of tracing her ancestry to check for temeperament, health, and conformity to the breed standard, and of course any pups she had could not be registered with the Kennel club or shown (except at Exemption shows where any dog can be shown for fun).

Hi guest
Mick here. Do you have any reason to think it isnt 100% staff. IE too big or too leggy. What age is the dog.
I have ISBT's and some people try to sell these as UK staffs. Feel free to e mail me. just click on my name above.
- By gwen notts [gb] Date 16.09.02 15:27 UTC
Hi i wouldnt say being to big or to leggy a good reason not to believe its a staff as i have a big staffy bitch know both her parents they are within the standard and shes big (leggy) and very broad bit like a bull terrier she 100% stafford just big
- By mr murphy [gb] Date 16.09.02 16:03 UTC
Hi Gwen

I did'nt mean that if it was big or leggy it was'nt 100% staff. Only trying to establish why they doubt its 100% staff. I dont actually know what the standard height is. My ISBT is 43lb and 20 inches at the shoulder now so he will be too big for KC standards no doubt.
Regards Mick.

- By Brainless [gb] Date 18.09.02 14:23 UTC
Hi Mick, that is interesting as that is the same height and weight as an Elkhound.
- By mr murphy [gb] Date 18.09.02 19:37 UTC
Hi brainless
He is only 8 month old so I am expecting him to be no more than 23 at the shoulder no more than 55lb (I hope).
They are quite houndish looking. They dont have the short legs or barrell chest of our staff. Much more of a runner shape with long legs anddeep chest.
Mick.

Anyone can write anything on a pedigree form.A KENNEL CLUB registration certificate is the nearest thing you can get to a guarantee, and even then there's room for fibs to be told.

It is as accuarate an equivalent to a Birth certificate. The KC is the officila Canine Pedigree dog registry.

I am sure that sometimes the Father on a baby's birth certificate is not as listed, but anyone doing genealogical research will use these records to trace ancestry. Would be a lot easier if along with our Birth Cedrtificatesd we were issued a pedigree!!! :D

I am sure that some one could set up thei own registry of Births, and this used to be the case formerly when these records were kept by the Church!

Hi Guest,

Can I ask why you think your pup is not 100% staff?

As Mr Murphy asked you is it to big/small/ head shape? Or is it a colour that is not Staff standard?

Have you got pedigree and K/c documentation?
