I would love a yorkshire terrier as a pet, i already have 2 dogs a lab cross bitch who is 6 1/2 and a med size mongrel dog who is 3 1/2 both have been nurted. My question is, would a yorky be to small to go with my other dogs, they dont play ruff & tumble together, but they do chase each other round the garden in play.

Also is 2 company and 3 a crowd as someone said to me yesterday.

Any other advise regarding this breed would be welcome.

Most of the Yorkies I know live with big dogs, they re pretty tough and are the boss in each case.  You just need to be sensible with the size issue if the two big ones are chasing around that the pup doesn't get in the middle of it.

I agree with Brainless.  I know a number of Yorkies who live with bigger dogs and they tend to be the 'boss'  As long as you keep an eye on them, and don't let the newbie be overwhelmed, you shouldn't have any problems.  As far as I'm concerned, Yorkies are big dogs in little bodies, my parents owned a yorkie for nearly 20 years and she was a little cracker  (She was 19 1/2 when she had to be pts).  Good luck and have fun.

Thank you for your reply, my next question is should i buy a dog or a bitch. I believe the dogs are smaller, and the bitches are bigger is that right.

Does anyone know the puppy reg in Dorset, or if there isnt one what do i do regarding buying a puppy.

Thanks.

If you already have one of each sex I would go for a bitch.  That will stop the Yorkie male challenging your neutered boy for top spot.  Chances are though the Yorkie bitch will end up top dog anyway, but the boy won't mind.  What sort of character is your bitch, if laid back and not bothered about being boss then she won't either.  If she likes to be boss maybe a male Yorkie, but a less forceful personality.

Thanks for your reply.

Where can i get a Yorkie from, do i need to contact the breed secretary, or is their a puppy registrar, please help someone. I live in Dorset but would be prepaired to travel. :)

Most parent breed clubs have a puppy register, so they're the best people to contact. For Yorkies try YORKSHIRE TERRIER CLUB. Sec. Mrs Mitchell. Tel No: 01235 833171. You could also try SOUTH WESTERN YORKSHIRE TERRIER CLUB. Sec. Mrs J Drake. Tel No: 0117 9601592
who might know of litters in your area. :)

I know a Yorkie that lives with a Great Dane! :D
When the owner walks them together it does look so funny :D
The Yorkie seems to be the Alfa dog, he is always greeting dogs first then the Dane says hello, and the Yorkie is the one that will bark at the other dog to tell him to go away and the Dane runs for his life!!!! :D :D
