Sadly even with our small numbers there is a well established trade in my breed through commercial and dubious breeders, and of course many end up having to be recycled through breed rescue.  It is a shame as there are bound to be litter mates of these who end up in excellent homes, and these nice folks could have had a well bred pup from health tested stock instead for the same price with lifelong back up from the breeder.

Many people get involved with the bred in a more serious way by starting out with a dog purely as a pet, but these commercially bred pups are not likely to bring people into the breed, and of course if they are not good pets will spoil the breeds reputation.

Breeds reputations are spoilt by the bad examples which outnumber the good in many breeds that are seriously exploited, but in a numerically small breed a few badly bred litters and breeders can affect how a whole breed is perceived.

Just browsing through these posts and can say that I hate seeing ads in papers and internet for purebred pups as well as cross breeds.
Whenever anyone contacts me regarding finding a puppy I always try and guide them away from searching papers etc:
However, like some have said, the public DO look in papers for puppies etc so I feel that breed clubs should place an advert in these papers advertising the club and how the breeders have health checks done before any litters are produced and to have one central telephone contact that can put protential owners in contact with reputable breeders. I feel that doing this would decrease the number of silly ads in these papers as anyone with common sense would go to the reputable breeders.
I must admit I do check the papers and internet nearly everyday seeing if any of my breed are being advertised in this way, and boy it make me so mad :mad: especially when I see the cross breeds using GS, Newfie, Collie and Rottie.
we really need to educate the public more!

I tried to put an advert in and it was refused as being against theri terms, I suppose as I wasn't selling but advising.
