My 15 yr old daughter Charly got up this morning with a terrible cold.  Earlier this evening she got a temperature and we have been dosing her with paracetamol.
Her normal tempreture is usually 36.6  it went up to 38 but is still creeping up even though on paracetamol. just now it was 39.8 and half hour ago it was 39.6.
She has been shivering but I have started putting cold flannels on her head to try and cool her to no avail and she is complaining she is freezing.
I don't believe this as she is also mean't to be starting her work experience tomorrow, and after all the fuss we made to get her the place its not going to look good if she doesn't turn up.
Any ideas on how to get this tempreture under control as I am getting worried now.
I use an ear thermometer so it is accurate.

Sorry I've got no advice but there's a really bad virus going around at the moment with similar symptoms and actually it gets much worse, I thought that my mum was having a heart attack last week the symptoms were so severe.

Hope your daughter is feeling a bit better this morning.
My husband a few years ago had a temp of 39.6 and said he felt cold, in my medical book it tells you how to bring the temp down by cold flannels etc but he felt cold and had a double duvet around him.
I always say if I can't figure out whats wrong then I phone the NHS direct 0845 46 47, they are very helpful and ask you questions about the patient and give you good advice on the best thing to do.  ((( hugs to your daughter))))

I always use Ibuprofen aswell as paracetamol,as both can be given at the same time.

If her temperature is above 39.0 c after paracetamol has taken effect ( about 30 mins after taking it ) , i would be seeking medical advice .
A mothers instinct is always right !
Hope she's feeling better soon .

Thanks everyone.  She had a bad 24 hours but temperature is more or less stable now.  I think she has had flu as she has also now been complaing of aching legs, back and head and she has a stinking cold.
