"A Japanese airline has banned bulldogs from all its flights after a number of them died while in transit".

Seems a sensible decision to me - both from an animal welfare point of view and also from a business point of view - trouble caused greater than profit made = a non viable business venture.

No company wants to offer a service that they don't have a fair guarantee of providing to an acceptable level.

(sticks neck out)  The article states that the particular problem with this breed is the flat nose. If this is the case then isn't it time that this characteristic was changed through selective breeding?

*possibly* just a bit of bad journalism (they are maybe getting confused with the BA debacle from a few years ago)
Actually I was an operating Crew member on that flight we had sneaked over to the Baggage loaders area for a sneaky cig on the transit stop at Singapore and the pitiful noise that poor little Bulldog was making satys with me till this day :( poor little love, he was obviously beside himself; It was obvious to us there that that level of stress, anxiety and the humid heat it would have been cardiac and not respiratory...but BA went down the respiratory route with their ban :(
(we had informed the ground staff,Dispatch and our Captain wrote it in the flight report :( )

My hubby is a pilot and at one company he worked for , pets were occasionally put in the un-pressurised hold by the ground staff . You can imagine what happened to them . Always check your pet is going in a pressurised , heated hold .

Sorry , that should read ' the un-heated hold ' .  Always make sure your pet is in the heated hold if the aircraft has heated and un-heated holds .

Well i am pleased that there is a ban on them going onto another airline
maybe this will stop alot of breeders selling them out there for big bucks.....
