Hi guys

I have just thought of this and while i remember i will ask!

We would lve to give our girl some big meaty bones to really sink her teeth into, as she absolutly loves rawhide (not the standards stuff, this is white rawhide and is completely natural and 100% edible) but she gets through it so quickly with her powerful jaws that it seems a waste. We are very careful with bits that she bites off and may choke on, these are taken away straight away and she chews the larger knots and bits.

Which bones are good for dogs? IE which will not have me worrying no end about splinters being lodged in her throat and which will be tasty for her and not really expensive?

and just to cure an old wives tale, do dogs really love pig ears as much as everyone says they do??

Marrow bones, but ration the marrow as it gives the dog squits, pigs trotters, anything really.

cooked or roasted bones will splinter.  A nice knuckle bone from the butcher would be your best thing.

If you get a marrow bone take out alot of the marrow to begin with untill she's had afew.

WARNING: Raw bones are best chewed outside, especially after a day! :D

Thanks for that, knuckle bones, will have to remember that!
so are pigs ears ok? As i have heard dogs do like them!

My dogs love pig ears but they're more like chewy treats than a bone - they don't last long. If you get a marrow or knuckle bone you won't see her for the rest of the day :)
Pig ears are the one thing my dog would jump in the car for :-D he hated the car for a little while

Go into your butcher and ask them for a beef thigh leg bone.  Often they cut them in half with the knuckle on one end which dogs can break up and break bits off, and the other end that attaches to the lower leg isn't easy to chew down.

If they have them whole ask them to cut the knuckle piece off if you are worried about her chewing off and swallowing pieces.

Just asking for dog bones might yield you soup type smaller bones, which are more food (will be eaten) and less recreational.

Cow Hooves are a long lasting chew.
