hi there, i heard today that durham county show on 21st july has being cancelled due to the raised policing costs of police attending the avent for security , i did not get this 1st hand from the secretary but from friends who live in that area, just wonder if anyone else has heard this, i kinda think it a bit strange but suppose anything is possible these days

Hi - Durham County Agricultural Show was to be held on Sunday 15.7.07. The Police authorities charged £5000 last year for policing the roads etc. Last Tuesday (26.6.07) The societies were informed that the cost this year would be £16,000 !!!!!
Due to this, the WHOLE agricultural show has had to be cancelled. Had they had notice far earlier, the Agricultural show, and the dog show society may have been able to increase prices, raise sponsorship etc to help meet the cost. They had received over 800 dogs entered, so it is such a shame. We do not yet know if future shows can go ahead.

That's a disgrace Kay, did the police authority really think that so much extra money could be plucked out of thin air with only three weeks notice. It beggars belief. I'm not entered this year, but I have been many times in the past and I know how much the show will be missed by the exhibitors and public alike. Who knows whether it will ever go ahead again at that price. It's such a shame.
