hi our bitch is on day 59 and this evening she has a clear stringy mucus hanging from her vulva, not seen this before or may have missed this before, could this be the mucus plug coming away and if so how long would you say before she start to whelp
yes its the plug but my bitches have it for 2 weeks prior to labour.

I have never found it a reliable clue for when labour might start.
hopefully not too much to worry about then!!!!! our poor girl is so uncomfortable weeing every five minutes digging holes in the garden!! strictly supervised dont want any commando children!

Low temperature has been my indicator every single time. It has never let me down. I expect puppies within 12 hours after the low temperature. My mum had pups yesterday , I called in the morning and asked what the bitches temperature was like. It is 97 and pups arrived 6 hours later.
well gin has now been heavy panting for 8 hours and has been digging her bed and newspapers , about 30 times now, hopefully not too much longer, she only panted for 2 hours last time with her first litter

Ooooh so exciting!

My Kizi had 9 pups in 3 hours the first time, a couple of years later with her second litter she had a terrible time, and we lost half the litter in the end, two still borns, one laid on when both of us were asleep shattered, and one just didn't thrive. She had a last litter of four with no problems, so I think it can vary a lot.
I feel so happy now i've read that brainless,
Gin has now been heavy panting for almost 14 hours and has dug her bed about 60 times now you would have thought she'd got nice by now !!!lol
anyway alway on hand here and at the ready, so exhausting this waiting, i know she's going to start on a toilet break!!

Ooh sounds like you are going to be busy in the early hours :d Good luck

Well at least she started in the day, when Kizi had her 24 horu labour she started at Midnight one day so no sleep al night for me, and then didn't start whelping until Midnight the next night so no sleep that night which is why I fell into an exhausted sleep and we lost the oen pup who got under her.
i would like someone to take it in turns to watch over her but i just find i need to do it myself.
Gin still panted up to 5pm then stopped and got very quiet and peaceful....... then at 7.30pm started the heavy panting again doh, i thought it was time!!
oh well back to reading the book of the bitch for the eighth time, i think i could nearly re-write it now!! but add in the bits it leaves out like tiredness and long haul contingency plans etc lol
so ive been baking cakes instead!

Good luck - you've been there before you've had litters before, and so you do know what's in front of you ....although I sometimes think that makes it even more scarey!
