I'm so gutted :( I imported what I considered to be a classic example of my breed from Sweden a couple of years ago and she's done very well in the ring. She only comes in season once every 10 or 11 months which isn't unusual in this breed. I had noticed that she was getting very hormonal both before and after each season but showing no physical signs of a phantom pregnancy. On her previous two seasons she's had a slight discharge and we watched her very closely for signs of a pyo. She seemed fine after some mild antibiotics and has never appeared ill in herself. I planned to have a litter from her early next year (having got 8 people on a waiting list who were adament that they only wanted one of hers) but after this last season in March she seemed even more clingy than usual and then, two weeks ago, started a slight discharge. More antibiotics but for a couple of days it got even worse. Vets weren't sure if it was the start of a pyo or not. Anyway, to cut a long story short, I had her spayed last Tuesday. I nearly lost a bitch of the same breed to pyo in the 80s and I know I'm probably being paranoid but I couldn't live with the thought that she might get seriously ill. So that's it - all my plans out the window in one hit. I do often wonder why we put ourselves through this  The only consolation is that Leela is safe from any gender related illness now and she's recovered so well from the op. I hate my paranoia sometimes LOL.
