I dont want to be too unhopeful about this, but you have a lot of things to consider. First, your dogd breeding, conformation, temperament. How is he bred, are his lines clear of hereditary defects, (especially heart in Cavs), is he a a very good specimen of the breed, is his temperament good (outgoing, firendly not timid). having arrived at suitably positive answers to these questions, you have to ask yourself who will want to use your dog. Do you show him? Most breeders do so wanting to at least improve on their own dogs, with the hope of keeping at least one good pup for themselves, if they see your dogs winning, like him, and his pedigree matches up with their bitches, they will ask you. However, if he is a pet, without winning dogs in his pedigree, then the only people likely to want to use him are people wanting to breed a 'pet' litter. Do you want to be responsible for the ongoing health and happiness of numerous pups sired by your dog, and probably born to people who have very little knowledge of breeding? Sorry if this sounds rather hard, but the straight facts are that good breeders want to use the best dogs, and the easiest way to evaluate the best is to see them winning in the showring. If you do decide to go ahead with it, it is essentail you have him heart tested, and check with your breeder that his parents and grandparents are still free from heart defect. Incidentally, do you have his KC registratin papers, and have you checked his registration is not endorsed not for breeding?
