Hope one of you has some knowledge :(

Our new neighbour has had a new gas boiler installed in their kitchen extension (they aren't living in the house yet)  but they have the vent about a foot (possibly less) away from a corner flanked by 2 windows.   Our houses are separated by a wall but our yards are only about 4 1/2 ft wide and both houses have kitchen extensions.   Ever since they have installed the boiler we have regularly smelled gas (several times a day, and sometimes fumes like paraffin :( ) in our kitchen while the window was open.   Last week Little-Un woke with a bad headache and started vomiting.   This lasted about 4 hours.   I've been closing his bedroom window since then as it's above the yard. 

The new neighbour is a builder :rolleyes:   Who do I speak to first?  Gas board,  Building Inspector or neighbour??    I don't want to annoy the neighbour unnecesarily as I'm sick of neighbor problems :(

any help or info very much appreciated

Have you got any mates that are a corgi registered plimber to come round and tell you if it is legal???/

If it was me, I would telephone the gas board and tell them that you smell gas maybe coming from the empty house next door, and it is making members of the family have headaches and vomitting.
Gas is a dangerous as you know and I would be very very concerned and would want to have a professional look at it as soon as possible. :P

I have called the gas board out on loads of occasions and they have mainly founf leaks, I think it has only been 1 out of 40 that hasnt been a leak and been a pressure release valve!!! I have a sensative nose.
The do not charge and come out within the hour.

You can get a carbon monoxide alarm, maybe worth getting one for your sons bedroom to see if the fumes are definately coming in although from your description this is the case.

Have kept son's bedroom window shut tight since then but not going to be too happy about that if the sun comes out, it'll be like an oven :(   Definately looking for an effective CO monitor!

We do know a 'gasman' but as the people haven't moved in yet the gas wotsit is only working occasionally :rolleyes: but definately smelling gas when it does     Trouble is, when the wind's in the right direction there's no smell :rolleyes:  but I can't believe that a vent that close to the house and windows can be legal

I'm dreading making any noise about this, all we've ever had here is trouble with neighbours, and now it looks as if it's going to be the same again, they aren't going to be happy if we complain :( :(

Get the Building Inspector round and also Environmental Health but I would also let the builder know you are having problems and explain that the little one had been poorly . You should not be affected by any fumes coming from yours or anybodies central heating extracting system.

He will probaly be told that he has to get the extraction unit moved.
