Sorry I'm hopeless with computers and that they entail    For some reason my camera doesn't seem to be accepted by any computer when I try and plug it in, it worked with my old one so don't know why.  I've seen card readers so I was wondering are they any good and can I just stick my camera card in and go to the programs etc. that I would normally use i.e. Photoshop etc.?  As you can tell I'm rather thick regarding this :d

I have a card reader and wouldn't be without it now, so much less hassle without having to use a cable. I just put the card in, then go to My Computer and double click on the card icon and there's the photos which I can then save onto the computer and later open up in whatever programme I want. However it is possible to set your computer so that a specific programme is always used to open the pictures up from the card straight away yes.

I'm with Goldmali and the rest. I have a card reader built into my system and it's just like using one of those USB memory sticks. For Photoshop I do tend to copy all the files to a hard disk before working with them as the read/write speed is faster.

I use Picasa generally ...put my card into the card reader and then use picasa to take the pics off the card and move them into a folder on my PC

I use a card reader, but have you checked that your software is up to date, it could be that you either need to install the drivers for your new camera or update things online before the pc will recognise it.
I had A SIMILAR PROBLEM WITH A NEW CAMERA i BOUGHT LAST YEAR AND EVEN PUTTING THE CARD IN A READER DIDN'T HELP

Yeah thanks guys. Bought a card reader from Tesco's for £9.00 and it's worked, I'm soooo pleased :d
