does anyone know (and can they share!) what the format is for using a foreign stud dog in terms of KC paperwork. Does stud dog owner just sign our usual form, same as uk owner would, or is there extra paperwork involved?

You need either 3 or 5 generation pedigree for the stud dog as well.

You use our Form 1, pay an extra fee (£25 if 4 or 5 gen pedigree supplied with form) or £15 if 3) and you need  a certified copy of his pedigree and if it doesn't show his ownership then a letter that does.

When I used the dog in Finland I had problems as the pedigree had the breeder details but none for the owner

would a photo copy do or does it need to be ordered direct from officiating KC with original stamp etc on it?

Needs to be an original.

You might also like to ask the stud owner for copies of Hip etc test results, as our Kennel club won't include any of the sires health data on the pups registrations ans people have come to expect the hip scores etc on puppy certs.

Be warned if the dog is a hunting champion they won't include that either :mad::rolleyes:

Also if the dog has other countries titles make sure they have it on his home kennel clubs records as our KC won't accept them without that either (the dog I used was a Finnish show ans hunting champion and a Swedish show champion, but they have just Finnish champion on the pups registrations)

thanks barb....in reverse in our case as the dog has to be a hunting champion before it becomes a full champion...then it is just known as a "ch" once it has both!

I got really cross with the Kennel club as they told me their policy is to only recognise foreign show titles.  there is no such title as Finnish Champion, it is either  show champion or hunting champion or both.

The worst insult is that a dog (in hunting breeds) cannot become a show champion in Scandinavia no matter how often it wins unless it has the required number of hunting qualifications, so ignoring the hunting is a cheek.

My friends have imported a dog who has enough show wins including BIS for his show title, and his international, but he can't get it it has he has only two out of the 3 required hunting qualifications.
