I've been feeding my lot raw now for about a year, all love it and seem to be doing pretty well on it. I do however have a problem with Charlie which is happening more often. He is 14 years 8 months old, a Goldie, and had his spleen removed last year. He is still active with no real problems. But he quite often throws up his bones (they are given lamb ribs most mornings, meat/tripe/organs/tinned fish/eggs and occasional veggies/leftovers as an evening meal). He does get sooooo excited at food time and I'm sure this is partly the problem and today he threw up when we returned from our lunchtime walk after drinking a fair amount of water.

If he isn't getting the bone, because he isn't re-eating it when he throws it up, is his diet likely to become unbalanced? I was wondering if he would be better on minced chicken carcasses or the like rather than the whole bones?

Can anyone give me any advice?

If he is constantly throwing his food up then I would look at buying a grinder and putting all bone through that :)

I wouldn't say it is all the time but it is becoming more frequent. The meat meal invariably stays down. I wondered if he might be better on tripe/meat and biscuits?

I would feed him on minced chicken/tripe and biscuit just to see how he goes. his digestion is probably getting a little more slower with age hence him not being able to digest all bones and then he will remove them by throwing up
if he continues to be sick on the biscuit and mince then I wold pay a trip to the vets to be on the safe side.

We are due for a check up soon so will mention it to the vet. The only problem there being they are all anti-raw and especially anti-bones.

Karen all honesty feed what he can cope with and what he likes :)

He is a VERY good age and adapting to oldies and their requirements is a thing we all have to do ;)

The only difference between feeding minced whole carcass and whole would be to the teeth. Not having the bones to gnaw on will mean you have to clean the teeth.
