Subject: Forget Dancing With The Stars...Watch This

If you like horses, (even if you don't) you will love this clip. This video is of Andreas Helgstrand and his 9 year-old mare, Matinee, at the World Equestrian Games. It is the Musical Freestyle Dressage competition, and they pretty much wiped the floor with everyone. Turn up the sound and watch this mare dance...

she is amazing... she KNOWS where the beat is.

add a few spangles and what do you have ...a circus act ! ...WHAT is this about ???

Yvonne - it's the equine version of obedience training :). Horse and rider have to be in peak condition and it is the ultimate level of training for both :)

It takes years to school a horse to that level of abilityand discipline and demonstrates the skill of the rider and the responsiveness of the horse. If you look closely at the rider you will barely see any movement from him but he is constantly asking the horse to respond to numerous commands. :)

Or the equine version of figure skating is a way I've heard it described too.

I have nothing against circus Acts with animals, ti is just the conditions teh wild animals were kept in that was a problem.  Don't see anything wrong with domestiv animal acts as they will be stabled etc just the same as any other horses, dogs etc.
- By Tracey123 [gb] Date 07.06.07 07:57 UTC
And they will be looked after to a very high standard! :)
- By Minny_Minsk [gb] Date 07.06.07 10:37 UTC
Also it is good to point out that all dressage movements are simply an exageration of movements which horses naturally do anyway.

I never thought people would get angry about dressage - its just an everyday part of my life! :) I never thought that people would say it was like 'performing animals' etc.

I think I have tunnel vision sometimes! :)

No fight from me there Liv!  You stick with Andreas and his jodphurs and I'll stick with Steve - thank you very much!
