Oooooh deaaaaar.... £400k later and they come up with a jigsaw

I like this one from the alternative submitted designs on the BBC site - its fab!

http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/in_pictures/6722205.stm

I can see it being a looong haul to 2012 if every decision is made at this expense with such an disappointing outcome!

I quite liked no.11 on that link Carla - very appropriate :)
- By Jeangenie [gb] Date 05.06.07 13:13 UTC
LOL @ Number 11! :D :D
- By Isabel Date 05.06.07 13:52 UTC
I thought no 3 says it all too .  Never mind cancelling the logo surely it's not too late to cancel the games.  I believe Paris fancied it at one point, I wonder if they still do?

Totally agree - the alternative ones are so much better. Is it too late for them to get their money back I wonder ? :-D
- By Jeangenie [gb] Date 05.06.07 13:13 UTC
That BBC one is brilliant! :) The official one reminds me of a swastika or SS logo. Very inclusive!

They should have made a competition out of it for British children.  They would have proven much more imaginative, artistic and the money wasted on advertisers could have gone to the winning children and their schools instead.
- By Jeangenie [gb] Date 05.06.07 13:29 UTC
Or had it as a competiton for all art colleges. :) A £5,000 prize would have saved them squillions and been snapped at by any student!
- By Lori Date 05.06.07 14:52 UTC
I really like that one too. Number 11 appeals for other reasons :-D Can you believe they spent £400K!? Disgusting waste of money. I use a design firm that would have done it for 2K and done a better job! I like the art school competition idea even more. A student would jump at the chance to have that on their CV and probably would have done it for nowt - giving them a few thousand would just be icing.

Now I quite like the logo however no-way is it worth the money they paid!
I too like the student competition idea, even if they charged a £5 entry fee then it wouldn't have cost them anything... :D

See now this is why us people on CD should run the country! :P

Hi

i dont like it and thought when I saw it they would of been better having a Blue Peter competition and let a 5 yr old design it. Why on earth did it cost 400K I could of done something better for a lot less.

I like No 4 but think 11 is more appropriate

If that is worth £400k then I've a couple of doodles on my notepad at work that must be damn near priceless

A 12 year old e-mailed his version into GMTV this morning and it was fantastic and literally took him half an hour to design and send!!  When I watched it being shown on the TV I don't suffer from epilepsy but I felt weird after watching it!!  It's rubbish, it's horrible and I can't believe that two people were given almost a quarter of a million each for such rubbish!
- By huskypup [gb] Date 05.06.07 20:00 UTC
It is pretty awful and reminds me of the fancy lettering I used to draw on my school books way back in the 70s.  Perhaps they intended it to look retro but did the colours have to be so awful?  Ah well what's £400,000 compared to the amount of money that goes down the drain on NHS, education etc etc.  The government are very good at throwing cash away. :mad: There should have been an open competition to design the logo with the prize as say, free tickets for the games to the winner.
- By lumphy [gb] Date 05.06.07 20:47 UTC
well the flashy bit has been removed as it has caused some cases of epilepsie already.

How much did this cost and surley the plonkers that designed it would know what they can show on telly it is there jobs after all

In the London Paper tonight some wag had commented "what is Lisa Simpson doing to that man?"
(If you take the top and bottom right shapes as Lisa and the top and bottom left shapes as a man.. and the middle shape..as.. *ahem more tea Vicar*... then it does look a tad rude) ;)

Wollf Ollins should be cringing, its woeful :(
