I started at 6 weeks old which iis how old dilly was when he arrived....

So now is the answer to that one.

Since your pup has been on complete food (i assume), then id start off with just a couple of new foods and work your way up to a bigger range BUT..... id do the actual switch from complete to raw straight away, not gradually....

So try first week chicken wings and apple and spinach veggy mix, and chicken mince.

Then add more veg, different meats etc as you go along....

So a good days menu might be...

Mince and spoon of veg for breakfast

mince and spoon of veg for lunch

1/2 chicken wings for tea.

Obviously, the amount you feed depends on your dog, start off underestimating slightly and build it up, dont feed too much bone to start off with as you may get a bunged up puppy.

Thanks,

This may sound like a silly question but is he meant to eat the bones??

Do you feed this instead of a complete dried food?

I started my puppy (14 months now) from 7 weeks of age, yes they are meant to eat the chicken wing bones, if you are worried about feeding them whole you can always mince them!

I intended to start gradually, but he used to leave the wafcol and just eat the raw.

It really would be worth getting a book about raw feeding (if you haven't already)  I know there are lots of different ones around but I would recommend Ian Billinghurst's either 'Grow your pups on bones' or/and 'Give your Dog a bone'!

We have raw fed our dog for over a year now, and for him, it is a great way to feed. Before you start on a raw diet you should do lots of research so you know what to feed your dog and the ratio of ingredients to feed.

It's not a case of just swapping kibble for chicken wings - there is a bit more to it than that :) It can seem a bit daunting at first, but providing you do your research, you will be able to work out the best way to feed your particular dog. Our dog has certainly benefitted from changing to raw but I did a huge amount of research before swapping him over from kibble.

You might not find much a book on raw feeding in a book shop.  You might be better off getting it online :)

If you search CD you will find plenty of information likewise google searches. :)  There are a number of forums and groups dedicated to raw feeding with people on there with lots of knowledge and advise :)

Do you're reasearch, as Harley said it's not just swapping kibble for chicken wings, you need to give your dog a varied diet where a good quality kibble will provide everyting with each peice, raw feeding requires you to give the right varitey of food in the right quantities.  It is alot harder to prepare however most people once they have started feeding raw it just becomes a routine :)
