Topic Other Boards / Foo / Bees - where are they?

I've been trying to attract a swarm into two of my empty hives for a couple of years now, to no avail.   I read recently that bees are vanishing, and no-one really knows why.

Mobile phone signals have been blamed for disturbing their flight patterns - has anyone got colonies near them that they know of?

Last year I saw loads of bees but this year now you mention it haen't seen any maybe a couple really early on in April. But not since the weather went rainy.

Best of luck if I did not live in a built up area but into the Country slightly I would love to keep bees.

Plenty of Honey Bees & all sorts of other bees/pollinating insects here, perhaps you should try the advice from my local Bee Keepers Association & register/contact your local association or EHO ?

We have such a diversity of crops that need bees to pollinate that the local honey is excellent & very varied in type(not quality)sadly I'm not allowed much being a diabetic :-(

I have loads which are attracted to one of my plants at the moment, and with a 9 week old puppy also attracted to the same plant I am on sentry duty trying to keep him away from it.

We've got a lot of buzzing from one of our trees, but can't locate the source yet - I'll send them over to you when I do :D :D seem to be quite a lot of bees in Norfolk at the moment :)

We have quite a few around here and all seem to be busy with our fruit bushes

Dudley is fasinated with them but keep trying to remind her about last years stinging episode but she doesn't seem to be taking a blind bit of notice

That was a scary article !

There are bumble bees here - no problem - (they're the ones that make nests in the ground. mainly) - it's the honey bees I'm worrying about.     They need their social structure to survive, and I haven't seen a single one this spring.

I will get onto the Beekeeper's Association - I've usually done my own thing as a lone beekeeper, but had to leave my colonies behind in Pembrokeshire when we moved.    Difficult enough organising animals + OH moving, without packing up bees - they went to a very dear friend.

I hope they're not leaving the planet to its doom as per article......

The US has a killer bee problem that we haven't(touch wood)seen here & UK bees have been affected by Varroa & DEFRA has a Bee Health Program

I am going to put up a couple of Bee"nests" that attract native british bees

Contact your local pest control officer. You may have to go on a long waiting list, but they do get swarms from time to time :)
