A few weeks ago I asked your advice on jobs for my OH as he wanted to work with children/adults with social problems (i.e. autism, special needs etc) and we needed a few pointers as to how to get him started.

He got chatting to a residential place for adults who have autism and told one of the staff there that he was interested in doing their job. They got him an application form and told him some jobs were coming up.

He filled out the form (in his bestest handwriting :D) and sent it off. He got an interview date and then we had the worry about what to wear to it. He opted for a smart grey suit, shirt and tie. He told me some of the questions in the interview and his answers and I was impressed with what he said.

They rung him today and offered him the job! The wage is more than hes on now, he has more holidays and he has lots of training! Im so proud of him!! So thank you to all of you who pointed us in the right direction!! :D

Well as the PROUD Auntie of an Autistic young person (as he is now) 13. I say well done to your OH to work with people with special needs is a hard job but one that I imagine is so rewarding the benefits are soul enriching not always bank enriching so well done to him.

And tell him from a family who benefits immensely from people such as him Thank You. I hope he enjoys it as much as he hopes. I am sure he will, and remind him for every small step forward one of his charges makes the family are in reaptures, and sooo sooo proud.

I have done residential work for children in care for years unti Jan of this when I gave it up to concentrate more on teaching but if he gets the satisfaction out of it as I did and it's not always easy I will admit then he will be more than happy.  Well done x

Yeah I think hes expecting it to be hard because its completely different from being a mechanic which is what he is giving up! But he is so patient that Im sure he will work through the bad days! :)

Well done to him :)

Must have been the bestest handwriting that did it ;)

I've never been involved in a job teaching but just teching people to show dogs gives me lots of satisfaction, to work with special needs people just give so much back :)

As the mother of an Autistic 8 year old, I say it's fantastic that he has done this. There is so little support out there at the moment, it's wonderful to hear of someone making the move into this area of support!

Big congratulations to your OH!

Thanks everyone! Im really excited for him. Just waiting for the police checks to come back and then he'll know when he'll be starting. We have a holiday booked in 4 weeks so I get the feeling his start date and holiday may clash!
