Hi, i have been reading many topics on this web site and thought i would see if people could advise me!!  My girl is on day 61 today, been losing milk for around 1 week now, temp is 99.4 today normally around 99.7 100.4, she has eaten well today (which is strange as she has been very picky all the way through) scan shows 5 pups, but i sure i have heard 6, puppies kicking, moving around like mad she looks so so fed (bless her).  Came down to her this morning and 1st time her bed was messed up.  I wonder if she is near, any advise would be appreciated. Thanks

I'd say she's not quite ready yet.

They are all very different. My bitch ate a small meal a couple of hours before whelping, and she is a very picky eater normally. If she is digging up her bed she is obviously "thinking about" starting! Is she panting? This is an obvious sign of things getting going. Hope all goes well for you and your girl. It is soooo exciting!

Hi
No panting, just alot of snoring and sleeping!!  She just looks so fed up! The temp thing confuses me because she has never really gone much above 100.00, and people say there temp should be about 101 ?? she never been that ? she is also licking her vulva alot today.

Thanks

Hi, Just noticed my little girl has started shivering, so could this be the start of things, hope someone can advise me.  Thank you.  I getting nervous now, and excited.
- By Dawn-R Date 27.05.07 15:00 UTC
In a word YES. I think she's in the first stage now.

Do you have a copy of ''The Book of the Bitch''?

It's my bible, giving all sorts of useful information and tips.

Good Luck. :)

I do have many books, and read alot of the net, but just think i getting nervous, i have bred 2 times before years ago but due to huge litters the vet decided to do c-section before labour, so never actually seen the labour stages before. Now she has stoped shivering and is eatin a little, LOL according to books i read they say they dont eat.??

Well I'm not all that experienced with whelping either, but I remember the shivering well, and my bitch produced her first puppy about 2 hours later.

Have you noticed the loss of the mucus plug yet ? Very stringy stretchy messy mucus.

Bitches don't read the books and I have had some of mine eat minutes before whelping and others go off food a day or two before.
- By rachelrjw1 [gb] Date 27.05.07 15:18 UTC
No i havent noticed the mucas plug as of yet, just trying to carry on as normal she keeps cummin up to me now and again and giving me that "ow mum face".  At the end of the day as long as she is ok, it will happen when it happens, all a waiting game.
Thank you

- By rachelrjw1 [gb] Date 29.05.07 08:53 UTC
No news at all, took her the vets yesteday as sat/sun she was being sick she had a shivering alot of mucus, sick a few times and then yesterday she just seemed so miserable, so we took vets to make sure she was ok, and vet say everything is fine.  Her temp is up/down never the same.  Alot of digging up her bed in the night but again this morning temp up and down, so don't surpose it will be today. She is on day 64 of 1st mating.

Hi my sisters girl did the same sort of thing we were sure everything had started but a couple of days passed and we still didnt have puppys many trips back and fourth to the vets so the vet decided to check her calcium levels and they were very low so he gave her a injection and within a hour the contractions had started, have you spoke to your vet about having her levels checked? its worth while as it could be thats whats slowing things down.
Hope everything goes well for you.

I will give the vet a ring, and have a word with them, they didnt seem interested when we took her yesterday.  Itold the vet that obviosuly she is my dog and i no and can tell in eyes she has had enough.  So i just ask for a calcium check on her.  She just cant be bothered at all, so far she has not eaten today, but drank alot.  Pups moving very very well.  She just sleeping, wandering, sleeping and wandering.
- By pepsi1 Date 29.05.07 13:23 UTC
Have they done a internal to see if she has dilated at all? If not ask them to do that aswel and just ask if they would be able to take some blood and check her calcium levels, it might not be that but im sure its worth a try if anything to put your mind at rest.
- By rachelrjw1 [gb] Date 29.05.07 14:42 UTC
Vet says she how she goes over the next 24 hours.  so we will have to see!!!
