Hi!!

We are moving house soon(fingers crossed that everything goes smoothly).

We will be building new kennels and runs and was just wanting some ideas. At the moment we have a wooden kennel and the flooring in the run is concrete. My Oh has said this morning though have I heard of anyone using tarmac as he thought that might have a bit more 'give' than concrete. Or any other ideas for kennel floorng??!! We are open to all ideas!!! Does anybody have any recommendations about kennel manufacturers? Also the wodden kennel is slightly worse for wear where they have eaten it!! What does everybody line their kennels with? The kennel and run we put up was just short term as we knew we were wanting to move but the new ones will hopefully be there a long time so I want to get it right for their comfort and also build them to last!!!

Sorry, I know there is alot of questions in there and it is all abit scrambled up but I guess I'm just after all ideas for kennels and run flooring!!!

my kennels are insulated and lined with a kind of formica panelling - v easy to clean - they also have anti chew strips on all exposed edges and so far - after 3 years - the only thing that has bee chewed a bit are the raised  wooden sleeping benches. They have slightly sloping concrete flooring in the runs with a soak away at the end of the block to keep the floors dry and a kind of ridged washable surface inside the kennels. I may be wrong but I would have thought that tarmac may hold the urine smell more than concrete ?

Thank you very much for your rely Yvonne, I will show that to OH seeing as they are his creation!! Hadn't thought about that for the tarmac but that is a good point. I think he was just trying to think of something with slightly more 'give' in it than concrete but still easy to keep clean. :-D

There's a thread about that and the rubber horse stall mats have been suggested as they are washable and can be lifted to do the underneath to I expect.

Yep, Hi Paula, we met on the other thread, think equine!

Where can you get the anti chew strips.  I could do with one for the end panel in my kitchen that holds up the worktop over the white goods in the kitchen.  It is by the backdoor and a tempting chewing spot for a puppy.

they came as part of the kennel specification - but I'm sure you can get something similar at most DIY stores - they are just metal strips bent at right angles to fit along all exposed edges and corners.

Thanks everyone. I am now thinking equine and have even got OH thinking equine too!!!! Think he was just abit worried that they would be difficult to lift to clean underneath??

In my defence I have been suggesting them all the time as I love using them with the horses but it has taken for them to be suggested on here for him to listen to me!!!!:-D
