Topic Other Boards / Foo / Aromatherapy???
- By Reefer [gb] Date 14.09.02 18:34 UTC
Is there anybody who knows anything about aromatherapy? It's not for me, although I could probably do with some help:) It's for my daughter who is 8. She has a trampolining competition coming up and it's her first. Now before anyone thinks I have 'pushy mother syndrome':D I'd just like to say she loves trampolining and is so enthusiastic - she WANTS to do it.

But she worries, she does not like getting up in front of a crowd, despite the fact she now always volunteers for parts in the school play and stuff:D You can tell when something is coming up because she wakes up at night, wanders around and then goes back to bed. Now I don't want to stop her performing because this would really upset her. So can somebody tell me is it lavender that aids restful sleep and whats the best way to use it? Or recommend anything else?

Thanks

Lavender will help with sleep put one or two drops on pillow 3 drops in bath.
Lavender and tea tree oil can be used neat but any other oil always dilute in a carrier base ie almond grapeseed.
Mandrin oil is also very good and very safe for youngsters.

Good grief you're still here:D

Brilliant, thank you. I've never used aromatherapy before but have read about using too much, so wanted to check what I could/should do. I will give it a go as she is fine on the day of any event it's just the nights before.

Thank you again:)

Well for me to relax the smell of a good malt works wonders - not suitable for a girl of 8 but might help Mum. Ja:)kie

Like Karen says- Lavendar helps get a good nights sleep I would use a few drops on the pillow though- maybe in the bath before she goes to perform to help her relax:)

Hi Kash - Did you get your book?

I honestly don't know if it's excitement or nerves or both, but it happens for school assemblies, plays etc as well, and yet all these things she volunteers herself for, then we have the wandering around for anything up to a week before. When she was invited to join the club I really explained to her what was involved and she still wanted to do it. So being a Mum I want to help her out, to try and put a stop to it.

Sadly no I didn't get it but oh well back to the drawing board eh:) How old is your Daughter? If I was you I'd put the drops on her pillow before bed and put the drops in the bath just before she's due on stage etc:) Like you say it will be a mix of both nerves and excitement- I think it's nice that she likes doing it and *it keeps them off the street*;) I've always tried to encourage Shannon but she's one of those that gets bored after you've bought all the stuff they need- for example- she went dancing lessons I bought all the stuff and she got bored and gave it up- her latest venture is wanting to do violin lessons at school:rolleyes: I think it's lovely and I presume you help her out and go to all the performances etc:) It's a nice little Mother/Daughter thing between you both and don't worry about feeling pushy- I'd have rather had my Mum there than not, which she wasn't and it's not very nice- I don't care what they say about kids forgiving and forgetting easily- they don't trust me! I would have given anything to have my Mum there supporting me and taking an active interest:)

I'm sorry you didn't get your book, you were so close:(

I'm not pushy, may be I should be:D She started at the public lessons at the local sports centre, and now has been asked to join the club. She loves it, she trains 4 times a week. It's her first competition in October and I just know what is coming so I thought I'd try and prevent it. I'll be thankful if she gets up and does it without any major miss-haps. Her brother does the lessons too and I've been warned his invite is imminent too, this is not going to please her. But yes I go and watch when they have parent nights, and yes they are slowly dragging me into 'volunteering' for things.......

So when are the next Olympics then........:D

LOL. I am sure it is a bit of stage fright. I bet once she is on the stage at assemblies and plays she really enjoys herself.

You're right Gina she does, that's why I can't stop her. I nearly died when I saw her class assembley at the end of term last year. She never let on exactly how much she was doing, she played Elizabeth 1, and it was very tongue in cheek (well for 8 year olds), and well her performance was astounding (OK I'm her Mum), all the teachers were amazed as they know what she is like. She got laughs from the parents when she was supposed too........I was gobsmacked, talk about command performance:D

- By Reefer [gb] Date 14.09.02 22:53 UTC
Oh no I was gobsmacked, you had to be there:D She got *into character* very well, I didn't know where to put myself, other Mums kept turning to look at me:) Trouble is you can't praise her either coz then she gets all embaressed so you have to take the softly softly approach and not make a big deal, she hates being the centre of attention
