Hello Everyone,

I would be very interested to hear what you all recommend/use to feed your special little ladies in whelp and why. At the moment I use a complete maintenance feed but have to make a decision very soon to start changing her over. The vet suggested Hills SP puppy which I am not a big fan of. I have read sooooo many statistics, I put it to you........Many thanks.

I have used Royal Canin HT 42 D for my last 3 litters and have been very pleased with the results.  I start them on it as soon as they come into season up until they are 6 weeks in whelp and then change to the puppy/weaning type.

Same food as they normally eat but from about 6-7 weeks pregnant the puppy version.

Hi Goldmali,

What's your pref in terms of brand?

I use James Wellbeloved these days.

I use Arden Grange Pretsige for both the bitch from when pregnancy confimed (4 weeks) and for the pups.  I like to feed Mum what the pups will be fed, makes the transition easier (mum tends to eat whet pups leave).

I don't increase the volume of the food until the 6th week and by whelping they are on half as much as their maintenece ration though the food will be higehr in fat and protein than the maintence diet.

I feed James Wellbeloved and at about 6 weeks start her on the puppy version. The pups are then weaned on the soaked and blended James Wellbeloved puppy food. Never had any problems.

Nutro, the high protein & high fat one.  Forget what it's called and I feed it pre-conception.

Thanks everyone, quite a broad range there.
