Hi..I've been trying to get hold of some metal based weave poles since just after Crufts because over the year I have made all sorts myself and my boy dog just breaks them.  I bought some good quality stick in the ground ones at Crufts but the first day I used them they bent. To swap them with metal based ones from that company was too expensive so I tried to order some from someone else but so far he's not got them to me and this is not months on and we are so well into the season and it s just silly not to have these to train with.  So any ideas where I can find a full set of  affordable metal based weave that  will actually arrive at my home asap?  Thanks.

The big problem is affordable!!!  They aren't cheap are they - have you looked on ebay?  couple of good agility equipment suppliers.

Haven't bought any weaves yet but have bought some training jumps!

if you look on agilitynet too they also have a list of suppliers and some do 'home' prices!  rather than very expensive club prices!

I went to a local welders and picked up the base for £15 and then just bought some upvc pipe for about £5 and cut my own weaves......

oh you are a genius! How did you explain to the welder what weave poles are? wow £15..I'd have thought it would be much more.  I will think about this if none show up it might be a good option..I already have two  full sets of poles.

I was quite surprised at how cheap they were but with two GSDs who think that the aim of weaving is to shove the annoying poles out of the way metal bases were a must!

yep my Aussie thinks weaving is like playing skittles...you just bash your way through the poles. I've made weave poles with all sorts, first with sliced wooden broom sticks screwed into wood base with the poles slotted over and that broke so I made some with  the poles held by metal curtain pole brackets screwed into a sturdy wooden base and he still breaks it. So I tried  buying the high quality stick in the ground poles and the spikes bend. Even if they didn't you can only run him through once and then have to stand the poles up again and it gets irritating.

and you need earth or clay for them to stick into..here it is all stones and rocks! So it is hard to even set them up in a straight line.

Yep I've been using 'suppliers' from agilitynet.  I don't mind paying a reasonabe amount ..I think from 40 to 60 with postage seems a normal  price... so long as I  get my poles! 

I more would like advice on who will actually deliver the goods because I don't want to wait another two or three months and all the faff of arranging waiting for delivery that never arrives.

I know a person who has an agility shop on ebay and I get my jumps thtere and they had one set of weaves left I could have had  cheaper because there would be no postage but in loyalty and patience  to the guy I ordered from who makes these  I gave him one more week..now he still never delivered and the other weaves have sold.  :(

mine came with a strip you lay out in a straight line then stick the poles spikes through the holes... sounds totally fool proof but when you stand back and look to see if they are straight! That's why I prefer blame the rocks and stones in the ground.

The fella is supposed to be good..I'm sure there is a good reason why he never seem to manage to get the poles to me but I do just wish he would have just explained what the problem was and that he couldn't make me the weave set and pass me onto someone who could.

Don't know where you are but if you have any sort of agricultural supplier near you they shold have square plastic posts with steel spikes for electric fencing(they dont bend like the thin round ones) or other stuff for sheep netting and the like.

this weekend my dog has just shattered three weave poles in three different rings and when he does it , it makes me jump as it goes off with such a bang, but he just ploughs on as though nothing has happened

if he didn't actually come out of the weaves there is no reason it should be? I've always trained mine on wooden poles, I have seen several dogs trained on plastic that have encountered wooden ones for the first time in the ring and hit them VERY hard and have known at least 3 that suffered shoulder injuries as a result For those of you that make your own you also need to remember that there is a minimum and maximum difference between the poles, 18" - 24", it can make a lot of difference to some dogs!

he got 5 faults and that was the only fault, as i had friends watching it, some judges do fault on the weaves as they have classed it as missing one, i asked at class the other night and a lady with a gsd, said her boy did  it twice last year and got faulted as well,
